Was anyone really surprised when the police said they thought it was the IRA?
Happy Cats - is it just me or has someone knicked your Pussy?
Your fat white cat thing has disappeared!
i was a little..
the words lepoards and spots come to mind..
JGL
Think it was me - sorry! Can you see it now?
Sorry about that......
Anyway, back to the story.......
Can you believe it is them?
I wasn't surprised when they said it , ill just be surprised if they prove it .
It was always a case of the robbery being commited by either the IRA. UDA or maybe the UVF,
All that planning and yet they stole NI notes that will be so hard to shift and move around.
Coming from Nothern Ireland as I do, I can say that all the evidence points to it being the IRA. John - to say that the money they stole can only be spent in Northern Ireland is wrong. It's sterling - it can be spent anywhere in the UK. Having said that, I have heard that the Northern Bank are withdrawing those notes, which were newly printed, so should be fairly easy to withdraw.
Happy Cats - people don't vote for the IRA. They vote for Sinn Fein, which Gerry Adams is adamant are separate from the IRA (as if!!!). But you're right - Trimble and Paisley aren't terrorists - Adams is. And even if the IRA do make a pretence of decommissioning their arms, they now have £22m to buy new ones with. It's not as if they will have stolen that money with no idea how to spend it, even though it was more than they were expecting. And what else are they going to spend it on????
I personally don't think it'll be that hard to launder the money. it can be spent anywhere in the UK, but nobody in mainland Britain knows what Irish currency looks like until given some. I was given some in a shop once and had to ask a manager who said to just accept it as Irish money was legal without even looking at it!
this gives me an idea with photoshop and a copier...
I dont think the problem is with the currency its to do with the fact its new notes and all the numbers are known..
Northern Bank are changing the note colours. The stolen money will become useless soon and whoever stole it would not be able to launder it en-mass at all. The stuff they will get away if quick acting would be the used stuff as it would be untraceable but who knows how much of it was old?
