Big cricket fan here lol Always been spoilt living in Taunton, home of SCC. Remember watching Botham, Richards and Garner, and more lately Trescothick and Kieswetter. Somerset are doing well at the moment, despite last week's hiccup in the T20  , second in the County Championship and progressing nicely in the 40 over game too
"Duckworth Lewis" made me chuckle
You mentioned KP, it always made me laugh watching him try to catch  He reminds me of the dis-coordinated kid at school who tries to "clap" catch, but rarely succeeded. The guy clearly has talent but is far too easily distracted, he needs to knuckle down to some hard practice... enough already, I'm starting to sound like Geoff Boycott
Looking forward to the tea interval, that sounds like quite a spread coffee
PS Henry Blofeld is God
I just love Blowers' descriptions of games, the big red buses, the cranes on nearby building sites etc, he's such an anachranism, but a treasure nonetheless lol
When TMS goes on tour during the winter months I keep a radio on my bedside table so that I can listen during the night. As well as the cricket it's great to hear all the guffaws and giggling that goes on at the back of the commentary box as Phil Tuffnell comes out with some wry aside or Aggers comes out with a 'Colemanballs'. Great stuff. They make you feel that you are actually there with them.
Home team will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Partly the weather....but if that doesn't come into play I think with Pakistan coming of the last test on a high they'll be difficult to beat,England have a point to prove after the last test it's at lords so they'll be difficult to beat....I say a draw,if not it will be a case of one team losing the match rather than the other winning
When I was about 16 I had a boyfriend who lived for cricket and I didnt really know much about it, but as you do at that age you watch and pretend biggrin...
well we were watching a test match on tv with some of his friends and at the end of the days play the commentator made a comment about the nightwatchman... and me pipes up... thats a bit crap making him go do another job after playing today redface
I know now much more and enjoy cricket very much :D

pmsl minxy,
it reminds me of my favourite ever bit of commentary
"The batsmans holding, the bowlers willy" lol
Then of course there is this, it makes me smile just listening to it

The bowler was Holding - Mikey Holding, the batsman Peter Willey who's just stood down as a test umpire in the last couple of years. He was also the fielder who caught Dennis Lillee off the bowling of Graham Dilley to give the perfect scorecard Lilley c. Willey
Did rain stop play?
Maybe time to drop KP dunno
Another failure today  First ball duck, wafting at one in "the corridor of uncertainty" as Boycott would say lol
Ahhhh, cricket - Can't stand football, enjoy rugby - adore cricket.
I will watch any match at any level - but nothing beats Test cricket - with TMS on the radio, of course.
I have every Wisden Almanack for the last 22 years (plus the Wisden from my birth year which Sappho bought as a birthday present kiss).
England clearly got off to a disastrous start but what a magnificent partnership from Trott and Broad - now the highest partnership for the 8th wicket in Test Match history.
Marvellous stuff.
Will
PS The bar's open!!

But what of the news today about match fixing by the Pakistani team?
How can one possibly predict a no ball on the first ball of the sixth over (or what ever it was) if it wasn't fixed?

So,it seems there are a few lovers of the thwack of leather on willow out there.
Cricket is the only sport i truly love and understand,so rather than hi jacking i thought us lovers of the game could take tea break here.
Like all good tea ladies i have provided
*tea
*scones (cheese and fruit)
*ham,egg,cheese and cucumber sandwiches
*fruit cake
*Victoria sponge
*a selection of home made biscuits.
*sausage rolls
*cheese straws
please remember players eat first.
other nibbles available on request.
Drinks are available from the bar,as soon as will gets round to opening it.
So what shall we discuss as the hat is passed round?
KPs inability to bat according to the conditions? Our chances in the winter(low)20/20?
oh and some suitable music i think.

I love the sound of cricket being played in my home village, just as I do hearing the church bells being rung. Bu I could not watch a cricket match, I would be bored stiff.
he only sport I play, badly, is this
Jeez! what a rally!!!!!

It seems that the no balls were an exercise to demonstrate to a prospective fixer how easily it could be done.

Rewarded by a bundle of Monopoly money to the tune of £150k just to add authenticity no doubt...

Think you have misunderstood me GNV, I'm not saying that the "fix" was a put up job, in fact I'm saying quite the opposite. In return for the money, it was said that no balls would be bowled at points x, y and z in the match and they were...thus demonstrating that the middle man was true to his word and could indeed fix things.
I'm sure that any bookmaker would be highly suspicious of a bet on a no ball or a series of no balls being bowled at specific deliveries, so I don't think anyone was betting on the no balls but rather this was a demonstration that the team could be "fixed".
apologies, caught behind as it were pmsl.
Surely someone somewhere made some money though here Max...
It is such a sad day for cricket, as we are still recovering from Higgins bungs in snooker.
It is obvious to me from the papers video that money did change hands to not so much fix games, but to influence certain bits of it.
IF they can do that then they can do the ultimate betrayal and fix a whole game.
Not really cricket now...........is it?

The "fixer" and the bowlers allegedly concerned, will be the ones to have made the money.
Having seen the no balls on TV, the bowlers overstepped the crease by such a huge margin, tthat it must surely substantiate the allegation that it was deliberate.

that was my take on it too.
*looks for more in sorrow than anger head shaking emoticon*
It is indeed a sad day for the sport.
It was a very sad day today to see the bowlers coming out to boos from their own supporters.
They have let themselves down, and their country down, but most of all they have let the sport down.
It will recover but people have long memories and it will take an age to wipe out a few moments of madness through greed, and worse of all will tar the players of this sport with the same brush....that is the real sad part of this sorry affair.
Here is the recipe for anyone that might like to try a banana cake...

It sounds delicious I must say.

Home cooking has sadly become a thing of the past for many households.
Most of the time home cooking is so much better than something you pick up from Tesco's.
Fuck if you look like her....

I will come around and shag ya, and we can talk Socialism all day long. lol
Ah.......that is slightly different I feel.
Well here's me thinking that this was going to one of those corny old threads about "batting with the other side".
Plim lol
