Good thread Postie with interesting result  biggrin

An interesting but unreliable result I think - the poll is knackered so we don't know who's voted what.
Edited: because even I couldn't figure out what I was on about rolleyes

Yeah, It just blinks - very infrequently.
well it didn't blink at me
must be wind
im not voting as you missed off the 'im a regular who buggered off for a few days and came back to find some git had got my PM box full of stupid questions and PM's from said git, brown nosing his way out of a beating' section
the poll is obviously flawed rolleyes

:eeek: :eeek: :eeek:
FFS, yes, it just blinked at me.............. sure it never used to......... :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:
Glad someone else noticed it.....thought id had too much to drink
i admit it...... the cat blinks.....
on loading the page it waits 20 seconds and then blinks...
any subsequent blink is at 90 seconds......
sorry to freak you all out..... but the supreme master of this idea came from the person who signed his name in my own avatar.... look and you shall see! Genius!!!!

Suprising things you dont notice untill they're pointed out to you
I voted but it didn't show up for some reason!
None of the options are quite right for my pov (sorry Postie lol ).....I'm not really a regular in The Cafe, more of a regular lurker who posts from time to time. Often I don't post because I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said, sometimes I don't because I look at who's particpating in a thread and know I'm not likely to get any interaction from them, other times I will post because I want to share my thoughts regardless of response. In the dogging section, I blab on and on redface
I do feel that some people have a bad attitude towards other members (not always newbies) and jump on posts very quickly and abruptly, sometimes with an unpleasant amount of vitriol and predictability. I can understand it at times as I will freely admit to thinking the same thing but don't feel a need to post it........other times, I think comments go way too far and it's often the same people again and again, some attitudes will never change dunno
(don't get me wrong, I'm sure I have shared a little sarcasm here and there too although it's usually diluted with some humour).
I wonder if this explains why some newer posters seem to have a much shorter fuse? are they lurking for a while, seeing those responses and posting with their defensive mode already switched on? I asked someone a genuine question recently and the response gave me the distinct impression that they thought I was baiting them which surprised me! sad
Having said all of the above, I really enjoy the forum and I don't think there really are cliques. There are groups of people who know each other well and who meet socially, so there is familiarity and friendship in their posts which can be hard for newer members to join in with but that's the same in any forum and life generally (first week in a new job for example), it's not peculiar to SH and it's not the true meaning of clique!
Edit: I should have added that some posters (newbie or not) do deserve taking to task!
I'm off to talk nonsense in a silly thread now, DaveJ's serious mode is rubbing off on me and it's too much for a bank holiday! :P
you should post more often then I won't have to keep searching for your avatar biggrin

Personally i hope some lurkers read my top entry about how I lurked and maybe see themselves there and maybe start to get the confidence to join in...

Oh all right then, if you insist!
As a lurker looking in, I would say that the regulars come across as a friendly bunch. One or two have a justifyable reputation for being a bit scary, but they don't just go for the newbies - they'll go for the rest of you too if they think you deserve it!
Newbies who get flamed tend to deserve it - they either jump straight in with an inane comment or they will ask a question just for the sake of it - when 5 minutes research would have found them the answer if it was the answer they were really interested in. As someone said, if they behaved like that in a new pub they would get short shrift there too.
Then there are the usual bunch of total idiots, but fortunatly they don't seem to stray into The Cafe much. They do make LMU & the Dogging forum hard work though.
Stock advice to newbies on any forum is to lurk long enough to get a feel for the place. If you are so desperate for a shag that you can't wait that long, then you're on the wrong site anyway. Go for a one-handed stroll through the photo ads until the feeling passes. rolleyes
Anyway, wave everybody.

Serious post warning.
EDIT..... I edited the "serious post warning and lost my poll . Sorry... there were 4 votes cast... 3 for regular users thinking OK.. and one for a lurker who is scared to post.
Lurker = someone who hovers in the background and doesn't post. Regular = someone who is on here often and posts. Newbie = someone who joined recently.
I saw earlier this evening someone berate someone else for newbie bashing and calling them "part of the clique". Now I don't think there is a clique, as I was welcomed into the forum and my "newbie" status didn't seem to be taken into consideration.
Yes, I agree, there is a regular bunch of people who post and have met each other. But I know for the first few months on here I didn't post much and was quite happy to just read, learn, laugh....whatever. I was a Lurker!
But part of that lurking in the background was because I thought I couldn't add anything to what had already been said. Not because I thought I wouldn't be welcomed or was scared i'd be torn to bits.
So, here's your chance, Lurkers, and regulars, to have your say. Just click the button at the top... you don't have to write anything, but it'd be interesting to know....
Sorry - I thought this topic was about LICKING! Duh! - I'll have to lurk somewhere else.
Mr R. Slicker. coffee
I declare myself champion lurker, do I get a prize? I've had plenty of practice!
I also enjoy people watching and the occasional eaves drop..
I've just got a digital camera, so I may get round to sorting an avatar one of these days, when I've worked out the camera instructions.
Any bets on how long that will take?
I will try harder to post, promise. It just takes me such a long time to think what to say, and then I have second thoughts. Perhaps I should just shut my eyes and jump in feet first.

I don't do this very often, but seeing as your (almost) debut entry is such a stormer, and agrees with me... I'll do a hello newbie thing..
Hiya The Drummer, welcome to the Forum.... erm, what else do people say... oh yeah..
hope you find what your looking for!
and I'll wang in a couple of smileythings for the heck of it..
:welcome: biggrin
I was a lurker for ages, well, sort of.. But since some things in my life have changed.. like the wife leaving, here I am, and SH, aint been a bad place for me, lurker (was) or other wise..
