I've been using this site for a few months now, and very rarely receive anything that isn't spam mail back for my efforts to write a decent reply to nice women....
Perhaps to help sift out the fakes, people posting ads might want to put something distinctive in the photographs, like a little piece of card with SwingingHeaven written on it, so we can be confident that it's not just a screencapture or two of a random person from some porn flick. (Obviously if you post lots on the forums then you'll probably not have problems with credibility, but for the hundreds of anonymous ads each day, it might help.)
And perhaps it might improve the quality of replies that those people got too, as if you're clearly real, I expect the respondents may put a little more effort into their replies?
This is just an idea to help separate the real people from the email harvesters.... what say you lot?
I'm sick of responding to people only to get back a bunch of email advertising some other site, which of course, you have to subscribe to!
Or has this debate been done before and abandoned?
If you have real evidence about fake ads, PLEASE report them to us by using the report this ad facility on the photo ads. We do all we can to make sure that the ads are genuine, but we can only do it with the help of you guys!
Re. your suuggestion about photos. As someone who has photos on an ad in the photo ads, your card idea is only OK if you are taking a photo of yourself especially to use on your ad. As I take "action shots" and use those, having a Swinging Heaven card on each of them would not work. I could write "Swinging Heaven" in the corner of each one before I posted them, but so could fakers, and as the pics are so small, you'd need a magnifying glass to see the words anyway.
Nice idea, just have concerns about the practicality..... confused
We openly display our email address on our ads and yes occasionally we do get spam mail for such things as 'the uks finest contacts web sites' etc etc
However we have never received spam mail back from someone we have emailed.
Maybe there are a lot more 'hoaxes' in the women seekeing men category (it would make sense I suppose) or maybe we have just been lucky.
Sure we get emails from timewasters but I do not consider that spam, and it doesnt take too much to weed them out - still a pain in the arse though.
Of course there is nothing to stop people using this rather good idea without it being compulsory.... although I am strongly reminded of 419eater, a site dedicated to playing mind-games with Nigerian 419 scammers (you know, the 'I am prince dooda, I will transfer millions of dollars in "over invoiced contract" funds into your personal bank account." scam).
I dont think I could take this idea too seriously after looking at their Trophy room of people with silly signs!
Righto - first to Judy:
No offence taken, but to clarify a bit - I don't provide a very complete profile because I consider my website, occupation, interests and so on to be personal info. Anyone who wants to can PM me or email anyway, and I'll tell them a bit more about myself. I'm on other messageboards and have even less information, and it's never a problem. Some people bare all to the world, some are more reserved - I'm the latter.
As for my ad - well, basically it isn't very good! No point linking to it yet ;) I got a reply when I stuck it up, but it was from a bloke.... hmmm.
On the credibility thing - I don't think my credibility should have any bearing on whether or not it's a good idea. Even madmen occasionally say meaningful things smile
All I expect is for people to take me as I am. Sometimes I'm a dumb plank and my ideas make no sense, other times they make sense. I chucked this one out to see if it sinks or swims as it seemed a good idea to me :)
Bluexxx:
Most of the fake ads tend to have disappeared by the time I get a response - the perils of being quick off the mark in replying. So usually there isn't anything to report, although I occasionally report the guys who don't understand that they aren't women seeking men!
Then there are some replies that seem odd, really vaguely worded and smell spammy, but I can't really be sure. I reply to a few of them, but don't get any response - they could have been real and simply not interested after my reply, or maybe I'm now on a mailing list.... I can't tell, and I'm not big on crying wolf on real women who are probably just besieged with email :/
Surreycouple have got it right - there are probably just a lot more fakes in women seeking men....
And maybe us guys need to be a little more vocal on the forum about pointing out ads that seem dodgy.
And hey to Mister D - that's probably what started me thinking along these lines now that you mention it! I found one of those sites a few weeks ago.
Sadly I think many women would respond badly to "I need you to take a photo of yourself with a loaf of bread on your head to prove you're real" ;)
There was a fad at one time of writing "I love SwingingHeaven" on parts of the anatomy and posting the pics for all to see. Maybe that would catch on in the photo ads wink
Anything that is as annonymous as the internet will be open to abuse - especially if its connected to something 'underground' ie swinging.
I do not wish to label anyone or make blanket statements but we all know that there is vast army of single males out there all looking to get a piece of the action - and I should imagine that as the odds are stacked against them some guys could begin to get a bit desperate (assuming they werent in the first place!)
And desperate people are much easier to prey on by scamsters - be they escorts posing as single fems or ppl asking for cash for a hotel room upfront or ppl sending out spam etc etc.
Personally I feel you just have to be an adult about it, accept that as in all areas of life where theres a quick buck to be made someone will try to make it and just use your own judgement & common sense.
