Ray clemence - At club level, he won everything there was to win including three European Cups, five League Championships, two UEFA Cups and two FA Cups and he ended up with a haul of 13 domestic medals, becoming one of the country's most decorated players in the process.
Gordon Banks - Banks still holds the England record of seven clean sheets in a row, which was finally ended by Eusebio's late penalty in the semi-finals of the 1966 World Cup, and he played in 23 consecutive internationals without defeat between 1964-67. And of course, he is still the only English goalkeeper ever to win a World Cup Winners medal.
Bert Trautmann - He made 545 appearances in total for Manchester City and his reputation was further enhanced when he broke his neck during the 1956 FA Cup final but continued to play in goal (his broken neck was discovered three days later when he went for a check up). His efforts earned him the league's Player of the Year award and a place in FA Cup folklore.
Peter Shilton - England's most capped player with 125 caps to his name, Shilton helped himself to a number of England goalkeeping records during his remarkable career - most matches, sixty-six clean sheets, captain fifteen times and second only in terms of age and length of career to Stanley Matthews. He's also England oldest ever captain, leading the team out at the age of 40 for the Third Place play-off vs. Italy in 1990. He played in the final stages of the World Cup 17 times - a British record - and kept 10 clean sheets, also a record. He went 499 - some say 500 - minutes without conceding a goal, overtaken only by Italy's Walter Zenga.
well there my five nominations lol
No question Tweeky that the best team to have ever played in the english league is the one that did to Southampton, having absolutely annihilated Man U 5-1 just a few weeks before. Dirty Leeds my arse. Cruel yeah, arrogant no question, but obvious watching that that the real reason noone liked us is cos we were just too bloody good for 'em! smile
Shame the front half of the team aren't eligible to play, but keeper and back four are:
1 Nigel Martyn
2 Paul Reaney
3 Terry Cooper
4 Norman Hunter
5 Jack Charlton
N x x x ;)
Best Goalkeeper ever -
Dino Zoff
We are getting a lot of nominations but not many people seconding!
I'll Second Two's Bruce Grobbelaar. So Bruce Grobbelaar is in contention for the SH world XI goal keeper on his own at the moment. Ohh and yes this is very slightly biased by me being a shameless LFC fan flipa

 I'll second 2,3,4 and 5....not so sure about Nigel Martyn, although he was certainly better than Gary Sprake!!
Ahh ha. You know I knew somewhere in here I would feck up the rules with my crap descriptive skills.
Amendment (or what I really meant) We can have 5 players in contention for each position in total. Once we have five players for a position nominations close. I didnt mean we can nominate 5 each for each position lol You can only nominate 1 for each position. Hence me only nominating Peter Schmeical.
Hope that makes sense now. So we still only have Bruce Grobbelar as nominated and seconded for Goal keeper. This is the only keeper so far in contention until someone seconds another.
well we have a back four, proposed by Neil and seconded by me and the creative midfielder, in front of them has to be the brilliant Johny Giles lol
there can only be one striker.....Steve Bull
first game for england....comes on a sub..and scores a blinder past the scots !!

I give up, I knew this was to complicated for SH :lol2:
Sorry Tweeky thought I'd put in a block vote as I would have long since lost interest by the time you got round to picking the left winger.......and besides you know how some on here complain about blockages sitting at the top of the forum for days on end bolt

Ha ha ha ha ha! Had a feeling you'd approve of the classic back four Max! smile And yeah, Johnny Giles no question. Ramsays' one regret is that Johnny was born an Irishman! ;)
N x x x ;)
Re the back 4, I'm with Neil and Max

I used to live across the road from Gordon Banks' aunt

I've met a couple of footballers, my fave one was Stuart (Psycho) Pearce... he's really intimidating.
I just came back to see if I understood it better, but found a massive no entry sign... does this mean Manchester City won't see the European league next season then?
:confused2:
