can i make an appeal to anyone who got unwanted xmas presents....
please DO NOT put them up on auction on e-bay....
instead.... take them down to your local charity shop... be that red cross... or save the children.... or oxfam... or something a lot closer to home...... marie curie/roy castle ect......
they could do with the money, escecially with all the bad things that have happened...... and you would all be helping others....
thank you.....

A very good idea Sean,
Being an atheist I don't do 'Christmas', so have no Christmas Presents to offer. However, anything I have that is spare will go the one or another of the Charity Shops. The death toll in SE Asia is likely to exceed 1000,000 when the body count is over, so any help will be gratefully received..

Did anyone see the BBC series "Life Laundry"? In a nutshell it showed you how to de-clutter your life/house with tips like - if you haven't worn it for 6 months you're never going to wear it again.
Well, we did a blitz on the whole house last year - one room at a time - and ended up filling a charity shops' transit van. Nearly a year on and we haven't missed one single thing, and we have so much more space! But the best bit was the man-with-the-van was gobsmacked at how much we donated!
Worth thinking about eh?
Well we finally got to clearing our sons room of all the junk taken out of the loft earlier in the year ... so about 10 bags of donations yesterday
Still got daughter's rooms and our room to do but should get some more stuff over the next few days.

When our children were small we always asked them sort our their toys about six weeks before Christmas. They were told about poor families whose children would not be getting as much as they would get.
Anything which was in good order and they didn't play with anymore was put into boxes for a local charity which then passed them on to local famliies who were for one reason or another could not afford to give a lot to their own children.
The toys were repaired, painted and generally made to look brand new by the charities various members.
All the toys were given at our children's choices. They were given responsibility to decide what they would donate and they were always very generous. Often the twins would have two toys the same so they would donate one and keep the other to share.
They enjoyed doing it and of course it helped us too because we didn't have so many toys laying around the house lol

What a great idea fabio. Have just returned after dropping off at local charity relief shop.
Makes a change rather than boxing up and popping in the loft. Lets hopt the cash goes to a good cause biggrin
So glad to see that someone has started this thread, nice one Sean. I had already decided to make a donation to our Red Cross shop as soon as the kids are back at school, I'm going to have a big sort out, all the kids clothes that don't fit any more, toys they don't bother with etc. and send them down there. Seeing the footage was a huge shock, I saw one clip where a family were sat happily spending time on the beach together only for a tidal wave to engulf them completely out of the blue. I want to help in any way I can, and this is the best way for me as I can't afford a cash donation at the moment.
we did ours before Xmas and took it to the local charity shop - i cant believe how much crap i had stashed away!! am now going to do a regular clear out, lol!
can i just say a huge thank you to all the people so far that have donated... those who have posted on here.. and those who have pm'ed me...
hopefully more people will see what is unfolding and read what we are trying to do... it may be just a little bit but at this moment in time every little does truely count...

A good idea for next years office Christmas Party. At bar I used to work in, in Canada did this and it really helped raise the Christmas spirit.
Have a secret Santa, but...the gifts must be of cuddly toys or figures and in a certain price range. Now, the cuddly toy must represent the person you are buying for, so you can have a lot of fun that way. I had to buy for a 6' 7" ex RCMP officer, who was then my manager and quite a scary bloke I have to add. After the presents have been handed out and fun has been made, all the toys are collected and dropped off at the children's wing at the local hospital, or what ever charity you chose to support.
Just a suggestion,

Well, I was just having a clear out, and had filled a couple of bags with clothes and stuff to put out for the bin men tomorrow, then got a bit fed up and came down to read threads.
I can't believe I was selfishly going to chuck out stuff (which there is nothing wrong with), without thinking of who else might want it, and if it would make any money for a good cause.
Well done Sean for pricking my conscience. All the stuff is now still in the bin bags, but put to one side to take to Oxfam the next time I go into town.
Lovely idea.

Very good idea Fabio smile :)
I have been watching the news and the death toll is reaching 125,000 as we speak which is unimaginable as is the future of nearly another 5 million people. Every gesture will count in the coming months and you have as I know Clare Lincs has also in her thread made people on here think of some ways of helping.
