On this same topic, we have a couple of q's:
a) will our monthly subscription be reimbursed for yesterdays outage? otherwise we will have lost almost an entire day through no fault of our own.
b) if we decide to upgrade to a full 1yr membership after this 1 month 'tester' subscription expires, will our account revert to an unpaid one, where we can upgrade from, or will it be deleted altogether?
c) is anything being done about the extremely frustrating slow server speeds we regularly experience. if we upgrade to a years membership, is it likely the servers will also be upgraded in the near future?
Thanks for any help.

There are a number of threads relating to this. The management are doing there best to improve things. However as with all things internet based, some things are beyond anyones control.

With respect Alexandra, money talks.
If you upgrade the servers the speeds increase - end of story.
As much as we're enjoying the site, the frustration of waiting for pages to load and having to reload those which simply won't load is presently out-weighing our enjoyment.

I'm not sure this answers your question, but it's from the previous page.

Got a reply of admin who said much as naughty said

In order to switch to the annual subscription, you would firstly need to cancel the monthly subscription which debits your account on a monthly basis.
Therefore once your account membership runs out for that last month that you paid, you can then upgrade to the year subscription and also the extras. However as these are two separate upgrades, two transactions would be required.
Thank you to all - it would appear our questions are now answered !!!

Happy to help
I think it's fair to say that the site is still going through some "transition" and improvement issues wink

With respect Nands....
AS for compensation for downtime - this is something you should raise with management rather than in open forum.
Just my opinion..

ps: We did. We sent a PM. It was read but not replied to.
Makes ya think though..... if a message had been posted this morning to the affect of;

"Apologies for the outage yesterday. By way of an apology, we are crediting all paid users with 1 days subscrption"
.....what a great response there would have been today.
Thanks.

A few of these questions have been answered but I'll just confirm:
a) Yesterday unfortunately the site fell over during the evening - much to our dismay; the site was down between 17:00 hours until 23:00. It was not down for a day - as you will see through other posts in this forum, we try to notify the members of any maintenance work however we cannot notify members of the site dropping once it has already gone. If requested, I will arrange for the money lost during this period to be credited – I have calculated this at
b) If on a monthly subscription, you must cancel the subscription which debits your account before upgrading to a year subscription - a link to cancel this is available in the Cancel Account section of the site if you are on a subscription - believe it or not, despite being in huge red writing, this is normally missed. Once downgraded, upgrade options will become available under the User Menu.
c) Yes immediate action is being done - we are aware of the site speed which is extremely frustrating. If you are aware of site hosting, you can sympathise how much is involved. If not, I can only ask for your patience in this matter - we are acting as a matter or urgency to improve the site and is by no means our intention to make this site slow which appears to be insinuated when this topic is mentioned.
Just to summarise, we are aware of the problem which is being dealt with asap but an issue of this importance cannot be simply resolved at a click of a button - we can only apologise for the inconvenience cased and ask for patience in this matter.

The site was down for a few hours... so what? Will the world end? Will the sky fall in? Will my sex drive dry up? Will my lady parts or bum hole heal over? :rascal:
I'd take the offer of a beer from Dammie if I were you guys and chill? wink

Well those 10p's would soon add up if each paying member contacted you about every time the site has been down lately wouldn't they?
Frankly with that kind of dismissive response, if I was a paying memember I'd now be harrasing you for every penny I'd lost due to site down time.
As a member who will probably be required to pay in the future I find the lack of customer service and the disdain which many of the paying members receive in responses horrible.
It's to be hoped they don't start complaining elsewhere hey.

If you paid for a service and were havingl problems with it, would you reall just chill and demonstrate you stiff upper lip Britishness, or would you actually complain and want some kind of resolution/compensation for it?
Poor customer service as acceptable is a crap standard to set, and no one benefits from it in the long run.

well i've paid for membership and if the site goes down or is being slow.....what do i do? i go and find something else to do till its up and running. within any industry there is always room for error and things do not always run as smoothly as we'd like them to.
i for one have better things to do that sit around and whinge when something goes wrong. yes i agree its not an ideal situation and obvioulsy we would all like it if the site ran prefectally all the times but we have been given the reasons why it is not running smoothly and assurances that they are doing everything they can to resolve the issue. from a customer service point of veiw i can't see what more you actually expect.

One point is do i take that to mean cancel the subscription via the CC company and wait for sh to contact me for further payment
and not to
Cancel account via the link as that removes all your profile and maybe even your username etc
Is this correct
Ah
I've just seen the answer from admins post stoopid lol
Firstly, poshkate - thank you for your comments.

There is a link in the Cancel Account section to cancel a monthly subscription if you have one (this is in huge red writing). There should also be a link in the payment receipt that you receive to cancel the subscription plus a telephone number on your bank statement to contact and cancel. There is no need to contact your cc company to cancel this.
If you completely delete your account on SH, this will only close the account on SH, this will not cancel the subscription which takes funds from your account.

Well from a customer point of view I could expect a better response on an open forum, instead of a sarcastic we will refund your 10p if you request it.
I could expect a response from a pm that I've already sent into admin.
There is always room for error in industry you are quite correct. It's how those errors are handled that I would question.
You may have better things to do with your time than whinge about poor service, most people have. However, that really doesn't mean that youy can discard or be contemptuous about those that haven't.

If my comment was read sarcastically, this was not my intention. I was merely advising the correct downtime advising members how much money was lost to their service during this time. I think the fact that the sum was (wrote in pound format and not pence) was lost during this time was taken sarcastically because of the value that this sum represents. Again, this was not my intention.

i was not discarding or being contemtuous to those who choose to sit here and repeat what many others have previously said, it is there choice to do so, as it is mine to say that i would rather find something else to do!
i was going to continue with this but as i'mnot in the best of moods i think i'll leave it till i'm in a better one.

OK I'll accept that it was meant as a useful point of reference for those wishing to claim refunds for down time and thank you for clarifying that.
Kate I probably shouldn't have quoted you in particular, it wasn't a personally dig, yours was just nearest to quote from members with that point of view.
The point I was making is that whilst many choose not to complain others choose to and both parties have equally valid points of view and should be responded to respectfully.

Just a thought..
But as this thread has strayed from the orginal topic and is now in danger of spiralling downhill, and becoming personal in some cases shouldn't this now be the time to turn the key?

Its not probable at this moment in time, an announcement will be made at least a few months before December.
I'm locking this thread now as there isn't anything new to add.
