Any ladies with the mirena coil??

Apologies gents but I need the advice of the ladies ....
I had the mirena fitted a couple of weeks ago and since then have been feeling seriously terrible ... migraines, extreme tiredness, joint pain, increase in discharge and spotting each time hubby and I indulge sad also seem to have lost my mojo both sexually and with life in general - I suffer depression anyway but feel very flat and down.
I have a 6 week check in a month and my own doc is more useless than a bike pump for a flat artic tyre :( I know you can get some side effects with this coil but are they really this bad ? should I insist on seeing them earlier or stick with it for a while longer?
I've had it fitted because I suffer with horrendous periods and don't need it for contraception purposes ... however the next option for me to sort the periods is a hysterectomy which at 32 I'm keen to avoid.
Any opinions/experiences/advice gratefully received......
Calista xx
My two sisters use this, and they both experienced major headaches for about a month, and after that it was fine.
i have had one for over a year now calista, took a while to settle down but all is well now. i didn't have any horrendous side effects tho - it just didn't stop my periods like they said it would
It's a strange place this!!
Match of The Day is on TV and here I am scouring the net for information on the Mirena Coil!!  confused :? :? lol
Anyway, it would seem you are not alone. Have a read of this:

I have the mirena coil and suffered the same side effects as you for around a month or so, thankfully it has settled down now completely
I don't have any periods at all but do get slight pmt some months but for me the mirena coil was the best option. The only downside was that I put on weight and haven't managed to shift it
Calista hun, I had this fitted about 8 weeks ago, (additional note, did it hurt anyone else as much as me? Fluffing hell it hurt  ), i've not suffered headaches but have had terrible 'spotting' for about 5 weeks, which has now thankfully ended. I cant take the pill or have implants because of my migraines, but this coil doesnt seem to making them worse, touch wood.
When I was worried I had a look at the web site for this coil which I found very helpful, even though it is has very cheesy video clips of women talking about it.
Really, I would give it a few more weeks to see if it settles down, if not it may not be for you, but take a look a the web site, maybe it will help?????????????????

I wouldn’t recommend the coil, Mrs HC had one fitted and ended up having a baby in the spring! lol
Am on me second one. Been about 7 years. TBH, I was very poorly once a month (y'all know about my illnesses) so I went for the IUS.
Hurts like fuck being inserted. Benefite = zero periods and associated rubbish.
I suffered with migranes on the pill, but not on this. Best thing ever, IMHO, but like I say, I'm poorly and grasping at sraws.
Long story short - I love it.
ok ok another bloke replying.
Rox had one for about 2 years. It was nothing but trouble from day 1. Periods every other week. Spotting. Longer (jesus, longer and longer) periods. She ended up having surgery to correct the problems the coil was supposed to fix, but made worse.
It works well for some, but as we understand it for a significant minority it's a pain in the arse. Oh and Rox just said, yeah she had joint pains for a while with it. Advice........ask doc to refer you to someone who does know what he or she is talking about.
Speedo (under instructions from Rox.)
I've had one for 3 years and it has been the best for me. Took a month or two to settle down but now I have no periods or any spotting at all and much less side effects than anything else.
I came off injections after weight gain and raised blood pressure. My blood pressure has stayed down with the Mirena. I am a migraine sufferer and they have not increased since having the coil fitted (they have not decreased either but then that really would be pushin my luck).
For me it has been wonderful - but like all things it is so very personal and whilst it may not suit you - I still think it would be worth keeping it a little while longer to see if it is going to work out.
hey calista, i had mine put in about a year ago.. and i would never go back to any other method!
its brill..... yeah the pain of it going in was worse than i expected.. and for a month i got awfull cramps.. but now its setled down, i could not ask for any thing else.
persevere with it hun.. its brill.

Resurrecting this thread ... update is that I did stick with it but after 6 months of on/off (mainly on) bleeding I've had it removed.... btw it doesn't hurt anyway near as much coming out confused
The migraines did stop but the feeling ick didn't really and I have anaemia and the constant bleeding has set me back a bit.
Anyway you didn't need to know this but in case it helps anyone else making this decision ......

Fair point Cal. But I have to say it's the best thing for me. 8 yrs down the line (on me 2nd one, btw) and the only prob is the SHEER FUCKING AGONY of it being put in.
Worth it? Damn right.
Odd innit how something can be so different for two people. I mean, (I think) we're similar ages/sizes/have kids, etc. confused

i agree... they would have to tie me down to get it out of me cos i think it is FAB!
i will never change to anything else as long as it works how it is now . (had it about 2 years now).
hope you find something that suits you better calista

She's had it removed; read the last post she made, up there ^^^^^^^.
sorry half asleep
Awww no need for sorry, I assumed you'd misread it that's all.
i'd go back to the docs str8 away and ask them to take it out, i had a coil fitted years ago and the doc kept saying...stay with it it will settle, i had it for 3 months b4 enough was enough and i went else where (a independant family planning) to have it removed, they just don't suit some people and if u are suffering from depression anyway u really don't need any more shit in ur life, everyone i have known who have taken to the coil have had no problems at all, all tho i know who have had the headaches etc have always ended up having it out so if i was u m8 i'd just go now!!

Hope you're feeling better now Calista.
Nice to hear it doesn't hurt as much when taken out..... been thinking about having mine removed and my tubes tied for a while but memories of the last coil being removed (different type and it WAS painful when removed) have put me off.
Maybe I'll make that appointment soon.........then again, not sure I could cope with having periods again after so long lol
