..loved it all to death back in the mid - late seventies when I DJ'd a bit in Northern Ireland - was a bit different to the masses over her then and they couldn't quite, at first, get the wellies to move. But perseverance and JUST GOOD SOUL won through in the end and we had a great soul movement for a long time over here - but right now I can't seem to find the same exhileration - maybe it's an age thing!
But hey, I'm always up for a bit of fun and if the arrangements are made waaaaaaaay ahead of the date (to allow a decent rate on travel) - I'll make myself available (but then there are those who say - he's always available).

Please excuse my ignorance (I am only 30) but the only thing I know about Northern Soul is that when I was trawling E-bay for some decent sew on patches (I got Slade, Blondie and Quo) there were thousands of these Northern Soul ones. Can anyone link me or explain succinctly what Northern Soul is.

Hiya rams_cpl... well what it stopping you? There is as vibrant a northern scene out there as there ever was - if not more so... There are more local northern nites than you can shake a stick at... there are so many soul forums/groups on the internet where people send in daily sets consisting of six tracks... some known - some discoveries... the dancing is not as athletic as it was but it's still fantastic to watch...
One of the best regular sessions is KIng's Hall at Stoke... a Goldsoul event... it really captures the essence of Wigan without the flooded toilets... ;-)

Myself and PLC were wondering how many Northern Soul fans we have on the site
Vicky - I'm glad I heard it on the grapevine.....I was born in Manchester and grew up in the Manchester Clubs and North West Scene - great days - great seeing bands like the Drifters, 4 Tops, Temptations etc at the MEN Arena nowadays but you cannot beat seeing them in the early days in the clubs for the impact....I enjoy a good dance but there are other forms of gyration to enjoy good soul music with as well...

Yep another one here, we used to take a coach from the outside theEmbassy rooms in Sale every week.
Also we had a northern night with Ian Levine at the Blue Rooms in Sale, great days.
Occasionaly attend a local venue but dont or rather cant do the moves the same anymore, can get down but not up so quick

I agree, there is no substitute for the real thing but I find it pleasing to see them creating new Northern Soul style music. You never know a Northern Soul track may get played on the internet which doesn't require an internet connection.
