Muriel Gray... (shudder) ;-)
Souly yes Soulie no... muah... come here... let me teach ya! biggrin
Hell I love NS but I was a junior when my brother and his mates disappeared for the weekender's at Wigan Casino and I seem to recall the TORCH and TOP OF THE TOWN were big faves too. I think my first Soul night was at Samantha's in Leek when I was just 15 years old
A couple of my all time favouites are Teddy Pandergrass's "Love TKO", James Brown's version of "Georgia on My Mind" but are just a drop in the ocean really. Hmmm I think a few of my mates might be interested in coming to ANY NS night but I might just have to say "I Heard it Through The Grapevine" if they ask how I found out about this one

SOS
Is this :_
SOS Stop her on sight - Edwin Starr
All ace trax.

Ohh One I recognise at last, and a great tune too. Looking at the ladies into this, seems it's time for me to leave my novelty and glam rock records behind and get into Northern Soul, trouble is I'm miles away from all these Northern places that still do it, and getting a bit old for too much dancing and staying up all night.
Regards

Great list.

Why thank you kind sir... however... you set the challenge... so... excuse me... (ahem)
Where is your list then?!?!?!
Wibbly with soul!
my list is further up the thread.
And (shudder, shudder, shudder) Muriel Day was responsible for Nine times out of ten. And there was an even worse cover version out on Inferno. See my earlier posts about Inferno!
Keep On Keeping On
is this thread finished now?

R Dean Taylor + Dobie Grey are the artists you missed. I actually have the intro to Landslide as a ring tone on my mobby. I reckon it's THE best intro eversmile

Agree wholeheartedly with the Jackie Wilson comment.
I rate him alongside Edwin Starr as masters of the art.
i dug out Curtis- 'How Can I Tell Her' last night, brilliant record.
Also Collins & Collins- 'Top Of The Stairs'
We'd be very interesedt in a soulful swinging social.
I take it the North West would (naturally) be the proposed location for such a beano?
Defo into it
We go to the Bradford night once a month fabo stuff
Do they still run the monthly soul nights in Prestwich? Old and modern room is good to give a good mix of styles. The WInter Gardens also used to be good in Blackpool once a quarter but we aint had a flyer off them in ages so it looks like it may have folded. And of course there is always Preston Grasshoppers. Not been to a soul night in ages. When we all going?
i love northen..
you can even find me at a few scooter rallies from time to time!
if you have a northen night.. please count me in
ta lol

As far as I know Prestwich is still going... I think we should locate the geographic centre of all those who've expressed an interest and the locate the nearest soul night to that... how does that sound...
Psst... PLC you need to join GT's northern soul group on - he has a special set this tuesday... someone has sent him some fantastic tracks... can't say any more... PM me if you want details... ;-) It'll be worth it for the interest value alone... KTF!

Aaaaaw that's sad... ya gonna miss a treat smile
came across this old thread and was wondering.....Did this northern night ever get off the ground...we'd be interested...?
Mr Joy's personal top five (but changes regularly!) - with links to YouTube for those of you unfamiliar with this amazing music :-)
Do I Love You (Indeed I do) - Frank Wilson -
A Touch of Venus - Sandy Wynns -
Open The Door to Your Heart - Darrell Banks -
Velvet Satins - Nothing Can Compare To You -
Soul Brothers Six - I'll Be Loving You -
We have been thinking recently of ways of perhaps mixing the glorious aural pleasures of "Northern Soul" with the equally glorious pleasures of SH.....
Be great to find the Northern Soul fans here....
Glad you approve Kaz
I'd agree that Northern Soul nights (sadly I was too young for Wigan), lead a direct path to all night raves and UK house music!
A 'movement' about music (from Rave, to house, to Northern Soul) is sadly what the young today lack and can't get their teeth into - it is an essential part of growing up....I can't bring myself to call the sad nonsense that is X-Factor 'a movement' - this generation will be lacking musical references if Cowell has his awful way.
sounds brill northan soul swingers social got to be done, keep the faith xxxxxxx shagg

What a fab old thread to dig out.
i was weaned on my mums northern soul first time i went to visit kev we had to go pay homage at the shrine that was the casino.i think i must have inherited my mum's love of all nighters too,as i see a straight line from northern soul to the rave scene of my youth.
looking for another track i found this.....

Good digging Kaz, Northern soul threads should never die. Don't think it would be difficult to get a sympathetic DJ at a Northern social...
