Anyone know about non-alcoholic wines?

I'm fairly sure this has been discussed before on the forum but a long time ago, so I thought I'd start a new thread. Besides, I just wondered how long it would take before someone started a hijack :lol2:
I have tried a couple of non-alcoholic wines but most of them are bloody disgusting The last one I tried tasted like brewed pot pourri. I don't drink light beers (yuk) and yet sometimes it would be lovely to pretend I was having a drink when in fact I wasn't.
So, can anyone recommend a drink so I 'feel' like I'm drinking alcohol rather than pop confused
Is'nt Scholer(thanks FB lol ) made from wine grape and that taste all right
I don't drink, being an old drunk and all that, but I have on occassion had a bottle of *schleor* >Ithink thats what its called<
It's not pretending to be wine... but its a damned fine soft drink, in a 'grown-up' bottle... and looks the part in a wine glass too

You need to give her royal poshness a prod, she knows lots about wine and grapes and stuff (not that i'm calling her an alky wink ) so she'll probably know about low octane grape juice too
there is a very good German one called ffulb its quite fruity but dry.......
Shloer is one of my favorite drinks..... you can make non alcoholic cocktails and iced tea with it, really yummy stuff. think theres about 6 different flavours you can get.
There is another one that tescos's sells but cant remember the name.
Other one of my favorites is elderflower pressee (sp?), its dear to buy so I make it myself with elderflower cordial and sparkling spring water...
Really refreshing drinks.......mmmmmmm really fancy some now!!
If you look for a de-alcoholised wine they tend to be quite winey compared to a non-alcoholic one. If i'm honest though it really is a case of there is no substitute. But give it a go I think they are better. And they tend to come in the same grape varieties as some of the classic wines of course. So, at least there is a common factor in the flavour but the X factor is certainly not there,
I am told that you can get some ok napa valley, typically Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon. Which are good and easily avaiable a la oddbins at about £9-£10 a bottle. Dont knpow if its any good but i trust the source. And as soon as I fancy spending that kind of dosh on that kind oof wine i'll give it a go biggrin
Thanks everyone
Shloer is on the shopping list and I'll also look out for de-alcoholised wine which I hadn't even heard of confused
There is one called Iceberg, which is nice, you can still get it in Tesco's

I agree.
When I was a bar manager I used to sell Eisberg ( not being pedantic but that's the correct spelling). It's not bad but a little sweet for some peoples' taste

Thank you Sallyann :inlove: passionkiss :inlove:
There is no such thing as a good alcohol free wine. I have spent 20 years in the industry and not found one yet, stick to good soft drinks.
They do some really nice soft drinks in Asdas. They're Asda's "the best" range. Can't remember the flavours, but they do a couple of different ones. I succumbed when I had to drive to a wine & wisdom night rolleyes

If you get a spare weekend at the right time of year, you could go and actually pick ya own elderflowers and make it from scratch !!
Also good for making your own wine. if you do it right you can make a delicious wine that is very low in alcohol for a yummy refreshing drink for those warm summer evenings lol
Good idea batman  Lots of elderberry trees around here!! Any ideas how to make it or where to find a recipe?
My MIL used to make the wine, was flipping lethal stuff..... puts hairs on ya chest!! confused :?
Actually, think she used to put pear or blackberry in it as well.
Im not a lover of wines, thats why I stick to some of the non alocholic ones mentioned. Now champagnes different.... biggrin :D :D
