Are Club Reviews reliable??

Just a question for all, I regularly look at the club reviews to see what other people think of various clubs near me, I'm not going to name any clubs that I am talking about in this post, but just wanted others opinions about whether they feel that some of the club reviews are reliable or believeable, the reason is that when I am reading the reviews, in general, the reviews are always a mix of good, bad and indifferent, and the club is normally open at least a year or 2 before it gains a fair number of reviewers, and can take some time to rise up the rankings, but there is one particular club that has only been open a few months, rising up the rankings quickly, has 60ish reviews, but then when you read through there are 6-7 reviews from at least 6-7 different people, this accounts for about 75% of the reviews, and these reviews are uber positive, and if there is a negative review, then this seems to be pounced on straight away, and I can understand people being defensive of places they frequent, now, of course, if you have been to a club and enjoyed it, then its always polite to post a positive review, but to be honest, when you do a search for the members who have reviewed, and they have recently joined this community, and only have one advert, no posts in the forums at all, am I being suspicious in thinking that they may be "rigging" these slightly. This tends to lead me to believe the negative reviews rather than the positive reviews, as the members reviewing are more established, I don't just rely on the reviews of other clubs, as I do ask friends who have been before I may go anywhere, so, the point I suppose I'm asking is, are club reviews totally and utterly reliable?? thanks,
Its always a possibility and not every review is added, but we have no way of knowing what is hype and what is not.
Having them is better than not though in my opinion.
One thing that would be good is some reviews from regulars, from people that either we know or one of the mod/ops team know, along the same lines as we had for the magazine, I think that would really help.
I can see where your coming from Johnjo. It does may you think doesn't it. I would say that a review placed by a person/couple depends on the night they have had at that specific club.
I know that the first time We went to a club there were at least 18 members of S_H in there at the time and all users from just 2 local rooms. It was an amazing night more like a really sexed up Social. Couldn't fault it.(apart from the decor which in my opinion was awful , but thats subjective. But mixing Romaneque mixed with Artdeco mixed with 60's vinyl...c'mon lol If we were to of written a review based upon that night then it would of been really quite OTT to the positive I think It really was quite a time.
If however the review was based upon our last visit in which the place was almost empty and to be honest not the most vibrant of places with only one couple we knew (fantastic couple mind) who had to leave early. then the review would of read differently.
I think unless the people going to the clubs from here either read the reviews or notice that section possibly then unless the night was either really very good or very bad then the notion to post a review in wouldn't occur.
Lets face it a review reading
"We went to so n so's club it was sort of ok-ish for a fri night managed to see a few things get the rocks off once or twice but nothing out of the ordinary"
A person wouldn't think of writing in this case? really i guess.
However the reviews can be useful in giving you a hint of what the place maybe like i.e. if there is a licensed bar or a dance floor. jacuzzi, etc.
My advice would be Invest the £££'s and go see. C'mon its gotta be worth a shot Ok so you may think what a waste of time in which case it cost a couple of quid to learn a lesson. Or you may have the time of your life and have spent the most reasonable few£££'s of your life, who knows? In either case you may want to tell poeople about it bu writing a review wink Or you may just have an ok evening to ok stuff on an ok weekend in which case no loss.
Bloody hell thats a lkot of words sorry!
The thing is, with any kind of review, it's somebody else's opinion.
We have posted a review ( a positive one) for a club we visited (still new to the 'club' scene :-) and it's interesting reading what other people (negative views) posted for the same club we reviewed.
I think it's a useful tool in helping you decide, perhaps in which order?, which clubs to try. We ask people that have been to clubs their opinions too. But, at the end of the day, you won't know if you'll like something until you try it, no matter what anyone else says about it

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - and you won't know if a club is right for by a review alone :)

If I'm authorising reviews, usually anything that anyone says in response to a previous review, I delete - whether good or bad.......... but me being me, could well (probably have) let some go through redface
As far as I'm concerned, the reviews are for people to give their own opinion on a club/party, it's not a discussion forum and their opinions are not up for debate confused They can by all means do their own review tho, so long as it doesn't go off on a "soandso said blah blah blah and I totally disagree and they must be smelly and horrid (even if it's something like username fresh_n_nice that said it :? ) to even say that ner ner ner" rolleyes which often happens.
So drop me a PM if you see reviews that are nothing more than a response to someone elses opinion (ussually accompanied with a derogatory comment about the reviewer if it's something they disagree on :? ), and I'll delete.
Some good replies, thanks folks, Of course, reviews are always subjective, rarely objective, I suppose if there was an official reviewer for Sh going along, it is still that one person or couples opinion, and your right, until I go myself, I won't know, but in todays financial climate, if the outlay financially is going to be quite a bit (Taxi's, hotels, drinks so on and so forth, and you havent seen how much Mrs Johnjo likes to drink, and enjoy herself) then I suppose you hopefully want it to be more of a sure bet, rather than a risk, which again, is why people stick with what they know, after all, you could have a great night in a club with 20-30 people, or a crap night if there is over a 100 people, depending on what you do or who you meet, because, as we guys like to say, size isnt everything. ;-)

lol at you and size remark johnjo - Liked your post too thanks
Lost? smile
JohnJo, take them with a pinch of salt. we dislike Xstasia, based on the nights we had, but i know others love it in there? Liaisons used to be mad busy on a sunday lunchtime last time we went, but apparently it's dead as a dodo these days? so i'm told? Utopia was great when we went, but that was about 2 years ago, and there were about 20 odd members from here there too. Isis looks good on their site? we hated it. Cupids was great, last time we went, but others don't like it? Partners? i could shag in their wet area all night long, except . . . ummmm . . . the water's too warm!? redface lol ;)
i probably wouldn't feel a compelling need to post a review on any of them? the reviews aren't prolly all that much use, unless you're just checking out decor and facilities, cos it all depends when someone went, and who they met, as to whether they had a good night or not? they're always expensive nights out, if you have to travel, so up to you to make the most of things really? ;)
probably not being very helpful at all here, am i? ;)
neil x x x ;)
Johnjo
We are always unbaised and as honest as we can be in our reviews. They are long and detailed and based on our experience of the club on that night and not as a collective feeling of several nights.
We will always give a detailed account of all the facilities and the layout of the club as well as such things as cleaniness, which is as the top of alot of people's lists and atmosphere, though as some people have rightly pointed out, different clubs can be different on different nights, as even a club with the best facilities in the world is not much good without any people in it.
We have heard that Utopia has suffered in this way in the last year or so from several people though will state we have not been there yet ourselves.
People are right to say your expressing your own opinion. Some people really like the fact that Chams is a towel/sauna enviroment but we like a club that has that as an option but also allows us to dress up (Having said that we do like Chams)
At the end of the day its always different strokes for different folks. We just outline the experience we had at the club and what it had to offer, and hopefully that will be useful for some people.
Some clubs can also be in inconsistant in their standard of service or the experience you have. Sometimes that can be down to the people present and how you find them, othertimes it can be down to the owners or staff. We have given a good review to one venue only to find our experience differed greatly when we returned on other ocasions.
We won't review a club on a second ocasion until at least a year has lapsed from the last time we reviewed it.
