Is there anyone here who is an expert on beds??No not using them, someone who seriously knows about them.
Ours is only a few months old and its killing me. I wake up in the middle of the night with back ach and then cant get to sleep cos of the pain, then im tired all day.
Its not a cheap one and the matresss is orthorpedic. We tried it out (by lying on it thats all) before buying it and it seemed fine.
Seriously considering a water bed next time (next time will have to be soon). Has anyone anmy long term experience of these??
We had a waterbed for about 14 years until recently . Excellent in winter , you just turn the therostat up .Lovely and cool in summer , turn the thermostat down. As for the 'mechanics' of them . Depending on how many 'baffles' ( big plastics discs) in the mattress , determines how wobbly they are . To sleep in , a waterbed is excellent . they mould round you and support your back nicely . As for having sex on them , i think they're very overated.
Hi, tut tut, you expect serious replies rolleyes
Ok well here is one, try Tempur mattress. You will love em, not cheap (why I don't have one) but serious worth looking at if you in waterbed territory. Just so you tried the alternatives.

Thanks, tallnhairy , never heard of them, how do they differ???
I used to have a waterbed when I lived in Australia..... Absolutely FANTASTIC!!....
I suffer really badly with my back and the only time I was nearly pain free was when I had the waterbed.....
You do have to "find your stride" so to speak during sex but it's fun doing it wink

A cheap idea for your current situation is to buy a fluffy matress cover from pound stretcher or the like, they make the matress a little softer, or you could take the pea out from under it, princess biggrin

Aren't they the one's they're running adverts on the telly for? Something about being designed for astronauts? They look like some sort of giant stress toy.

Sorry , i havnt slept well this week, is "take the pea out from under it" some sort of pun?
Daft as it sounds try experimenting with your pillow. My back pain has eased a little using a thinner one, maybe because posture is important laying down as well I dunno just an idea.

Drat making me search the net, here you are babes...
Basically take a special firm foam, never ever stops returning to original shape, 10 year guarantee, and moulds to your body. Designed for Nasa... I slept on one, unreal... There are some imitation ones out, lot cheaper but I don't know how good they are by comparison.

Talking of pillows.... Has anyone tried a Dream Wizard pillow??.... It's a pillow with an airpocket inside it.... They are about £20-25 but well worth the money.... I take mine everywhere and I mean everywhere... lol When we went to the Mids munch in March I took it then as I cant sleep without it now.... The air pocket means that there isn't any pressure on your neck and if you suffer from trapped nerves etc it is a must have...

All mattresses I have brought from Ikea have been fantastic so you could just consider replacing the mattress not the whole bed???????

Either, Id happily replace the whole bedroom if i could guarantee id sleep properly!!!
You talking nearer the £1000 mark for king size if not higher... LIke I say there are cheaper ones out there of similar design, no idea if they any good. Find a local stockist and go lay down on one, fell in love in seconds with it. One day...
Thanks everyone, for the sensible and informative replies.
We are off bed shopping tomorro, mind you i havnt told him yet!!!
I could be wrong, but don't Tempur give you the option of trying it for a while to see if you like it or not?
I know people who have bought Tempur matresses - took em a little while to get used to it, but they swear by them now. Of the four couples, not one of them have said anything bad about it, said it was the best money they've spent. I'm not so sure, but never slept in one, they feel everso weird, like a really thick sponge confused
Also it's worth remembering that even the softest of normal matresses feel hard on a solid base. You only get the proper softness if it is on a divan bed.
my mate works in the bed world, the softer the mattress, the better,a soft matt, moulds to your back, ortho matts, can actually make yer bak probz worse, they r rigid n offer less support
We bought an expensive pocket sprung bed earlier this wife has suffered with her back since she had a soft mattress and she's hardly had any trouble since we got it
yeah did same thing here matey, like i said softer is best biggrin
