Its because its a vast clunky memory eating shitface of a bit of software. You could try re-installing , I did it three times and it worked everytime , but when it went tits up the fourth time i just removed it and set the DVD recorder.
Sounds like an issue with your M$ DRM software. Someone else wrote this little guide:
1. Open Internet Explorer and go to
2. Click the Upgrade button (if the button is greyed out then proceed to step 4)
Once the process has completed the text on the page should change to: Progress Status: The security components have been upgraded successfully. To play protected files, restart your digital media player. If you cannot play protected files after restarting your digital media player, restart your computer.
3. Try to download something free from 4oD
4. If you still experience problems it may be necessary for you to re-install Windows Media Player or upgrade to version 11.
a) First remove Windows Media Player using the Add & Remove programs utility in your Control Panel
(Proceed to the next step if Windows Media Player does not appear here)
b) Using Internet Explorer download the latest version of Windows Media Player from Microsoft website:
c) Run the Windows Media Player setup file to install it.
5. Finally download the latest 4oD setup file from
then run it and choose Repair.
Restart your computer and launch 4oD again. Please first test with free content.
If that doesn't work have you checked the help site for 4OD?
