going slightly off tangent, but in the same vein as not understanding....was asissting on an op on a patients leg one day, and the surgeon (an asian guy)asked me to
"hold the tie"
Me: pardon
Him: hold the tie please
Me: anxiously looking for the tie...any sort of tie that he was using that i could hold.....for those that dont know.....catgut and man made ties are used to tie off vessels, or hold vessels out of the way while other bits are operated on, and its common for the asisstant to hold these while the doc positions or snips them.
Me:....um erm......pardon Doctor
Him: the TIE...hold the TIE please
Me: um..... redface

you arent using a tie doctor....would you like one, I can get the auxilliary nurse to run and get you one straight away
Him: rolleyes
