ATT: Chatroom users

What happens for instance, if you are down to be on duty and someone phones you up and invites you to a party?? Do you say no sorry but I can come to my Nan's birthday party because I have to be on duty that night??
Think that a bit far fetched!!!! If there was gonna be a family party for instance.... you would know about it at least a week b4...so u would, just like in most jobs.... be able to swap!!!!
Also if like u say after a hard days work you cant be arsed...then don't be an op

An interesting discussion. The original problem seems to lie with chat room users who are unable to use /ignore or save a log or screen dump to use later. Having watched the chat room last week when regular chatters were screaming for an op I wondered how some of them would have gone on in the wild-west cloning days of DDs. I think matrix et al would have had a field day.
Uninvited pms are annoying but hardly the end of the world and reacting to idiots in the main room is bringing yourself down to their level. It is amazing that some people feel it neccessary to contact someone who is outside the room to sort out room problems. If it really is that bad then there is a little X at the top of the screen to take you away from the scary people. rolleyes

How about tonight as an example??? The Leicester munch is on and all but myself, Steve, Jon and Jewcy_Joanne are going...
Steve is away at a motor racing venue, Jon has RL stuff going on which demands his attention (I know what but am not prepared to say on here) and Joanne, the lucky begger is on holiday.... Which leaves little ole me....
So, do I now have to spend the rest of the day and night sitting at my computer watching the chatroom???.... Yeah right rolleyes

Sorry but I have things to do as I am out all day tomorrow and I have to do the things that I would have done tomorrow today/tonight....

Because there is no-one at the minute that we all agree could do the job.... And trust me we have been looking....
One thing I can guarantee is that none of the OP's will agree to a rota basis, like Blue said "We are unpaid volunteers, it is not our job.... Mark asked us to help him IN OUR SPARE TIME.............."

right i'm probabily going to get shouted at here but what the hell
people who moan in the room everytine someone pvts them uninvted really pee me off to be honest, if someone pvts me uninvited and i don't want to take to them i just ignor them, 2 or 3 lines of 'hey are you there?' and they stop, its not hard! noonnes going to sit taking to u if you don't reply. I think people get to the point were they monaing about every little thing, in my opinion the room opps are there to sort out any abusive people and 9 times out of 10 any trouble in there is started cause of people moaning all the time.
I also think its not very realistic to say there should always be a opp in and they should work on a rota, noone can say for sure what they are going to be doing because for example if i was a opp and i was expected to be in on tuesdays and fridays (just a example) and soneone called in to see me (ie a feiend or family member) theres no way i'd say 'sorry can't chat i'm opping in the chat roo' and nor would anyone else, if you start putting such pressures on the opps i personally think a lot would pack it in and then there would be even less.

Y'know, it strikes me somewhat, that SOME people cannot differentiate between real life and SH.
SH is an on-line community, and dare I say it - for a vast majority of members, a wannabee escape from reality. I bet the percentage of 'swingers' (in all forms - swingers, doggers, voyuers, whatever) is actually very small. Most being here 'cos they either can't pluck up the nounce to get on and do it, their partner won't let them, or just indeed for the crack.
For all of us, Ops, Mods, Users, real life take precident, if that leaves you on your poor little lonesome to deal with wankers in the room, fuckin tuff really :twisted: - learn how to use mIRC or Java properly - why do you think there are commands such as /ignore for fuck sake. Failing that, nothing stops you logging off and coming back later - a bit like the telly, if there's nowt on, or the programme is boring, switch over or switch off mad

If we boot or ban people, one element says "oooh that was harsh", another says "way to go Ops!" while yet another says "fuckin power mongers!". The chatrroom, indeed the whole site, is supposed to be an adult site, you could fool me a lot of the time by the attitude of some users, worse than a bus load of school kids (trust me, I know what a bus load of school kids is like!).
The rules we enforce are not harsh by any standards, all are there for a good reason, the protection and enjoyment of the site and its users.
If you don't like it theres always the telly...............
Now watch all the whingeing when Mods and Ops get strict - oh yeah, wont we be bastards then

Being an op is difficult especially when you are covering many things whilst online and the ops aren't just watching main chat they have at least 2 other windows open in mirc, for example SH Help.
On top of this they may be chatting with friends on another media or dealing with family life around them at the time aswell or surfing porn :twisted:
How do i know? well because i used to be one for SH as some know.
Some ops are available to watch the room at night because they work in the day and some during the day when the kids are at school, but we have to remember that over the last month the kids have been off school and the ops havent been around as much during the day because of dealing with the ankle biters, who are obviously too young to be sitting next to a parent watching main chat, illegal and unwise!
Personally i think a round of applause is due to the ops when they are available, in the mean time if you are a mirc user download "TrollBane" this little add on stops people pvt'ing you uninvited and automatically tells them not to pvt :twisted:
Also remember to be polite when you say "PLEASE dont pvt me without asking first if its ok to do so" being offensive is annoying to the people that do it and it makes them even more aggressive in the room.
I think we are all big enough and most of us (me included) bloody ugly enough to look after ourselves when we happen to be in the chatroom at a time an op is unavailable, and deal with the situation sensibly.
