the mods are obliged to look at everyone’s avatars to make sure that they are not going to be offensive.
there is a difference between having boobs and bums, as opposed to having genitals. if you open your newspaper in the morning you will see boobs and bums... they are not really .
genitals are a different matter... not everyone is comfortable looking at someone’s muff first thing in the morning when they log on over breakfast.
Its much better to keep those kind of pictures to the adverts and personal pages… that way, people are making a conscious effort to look at them.
the cafe is social, and therefore attracts people who may not really be ready to go "all the way" to the dark side.... don’t want to be scaring them off do we.
your point about there not being a specific mention in the aup about your avatar pics can prob be answered as... there are a lot of things not specifically mentioned... but it DOES say that nothing that is likely to cause offence to others..... this can include certain pics.
I wont comment on individual cases and this is a personnal view, but would add that I fully support the moderators asking folk to remove avatars that are either pornographic or that go beyond that which we are used to, in every day life, echoing the point that Busty Babe made about what we see when we open certain newspapers thus including cartoon style porn. I would actually go further than they already do, but as I say its my personnel view .
I have no doubt, the claims that these are joke avatars with no offence intended, are true in some cases, but with the vast range of pictures that are available to us, there really is no need.
Like many folk, our P.C. is in a room where there is a fair bit of non user traffic, with other family members walking back and forth to other rooms, whilst both I and mrs davej are broad minded people, we still prefer that our other family members do not see pornographic images. I for one find it a nuisance when I have to minimise the screen when viewing other parts of the site when I hear the kids coming, I dont want to have to do that when I'm in the cafe as well.
There are a number of other areas where folk can post pictures that other members can view if they choose, but please lets maintain the social aspect of the cafe in all areas which includes insensitive avatars. Busty Babe had it right when she talked about the diffeent type of people that post in the cafe. We are all broad minded, however that doesn't mean that we want to view porn when we are socializing with freinds.
I was holding back my comments cos I was so fizzing mad!
But others have been more eloquent and reasonable so I can now pop in and say - for the hundredth time NO COCK SHOTS! If you want to spit your dummy out then fine, just so long as you pick it up off the floor as you leave.
It was unusual for Greg to get away with his avatar for as long as he did, normally the mods are pretty quick to jump in and ask folk to change any unacceptable avatar. And I'm fully with them on this topic - the forum is not the place for hardcore pics, even cartoon ones.
Mike.
It seems to me that what is being sadi here is, if its paid for and generates income its acceptable but if its not paid for then its offensive and not allowed.
Hum, sadly I think this just reflkects society in general
