So ... Norwich Union is changing it`s name !!
With a stupidly expensive advertising campaign at a time when most of us are struggling to keep up our payments.
Does this look like one of the biggest mistakes a financial institution has ever made at a time when we thought they couldn`t find more ridiculous ways waste money??
What planet are these people on ?

A waste of time and money. No matter what they do they will always be known as Norwich Union.
Reminds me the day when Jif became Cif...or whatever the hell it became. lol
We all know it is still Jif! Do these people have nothing better to do with their time? And there was me thinking these people were clever.
Yes, and look what just happened after Virgin stores changed their name to Zavvi! lol
IMHO would have been better if they'd have spelt it backwards - AVIVA instead of AVIVA
smile

I don’t think it just changed its name, wasn’t it a buy out?
Someone was looking into a crystal ball me thinks rolleyes
You sure it ain't UVAVU?
Or was it IRANU??

AVIVA !!!
WOW A really catchy name for a well established company NOT!!! (well someone got paid a lot of money for coming up with the name that sounds like a character from the film Lock, Stock amd Two Smoking Barrels}.
Well if that person is still working at Norwich Union.
The question i have is WHY ?.
Sounds like some old 70s film with Michael Caine and Sean Connery doing some bank raid in 1890s Mexico to me!

Hmmmm... Sounds more like Arriva, one of the largest transport services organisations in Europe... blah blah blah... confused
AVIVA is a massive company that owns Norwich Union (who in turn own RAC Motoring Services), and has done for a while. I suspect that this is designed to make them a more global brand rather than an insurance company based in , erm, Norwich!! confused :? lol

But the global brand known as Manchester United seem to be doing okay without any change of name!

Now if you'd said 'worse reputation' than Virgin Trains you'd be comparing apples with apples but I guess that doesn't matter too much. Arriva Trains Wales are about the fourth best train operating comopany for punctuality in Britain.
IRANU! wink

Aviva is also a beautiful girls' name meaning springtime.

Two beautiful things in one post!

I don't know about you but Norwich Union sounds like a good solid, safe place to put my pension.
Aviva sounds like a fly-by-night sort of operation very popular with yuppies in the '90s.
I'm sure it isn't, but it's what the name says to me. Not that it matters since I don't have any money to save anywhere LOL.

You`re right about Norwich Union being owned by Aviva ...My concern was with the huge amounts of money they are wasting on paying Ringo Star , Bruce Willis, Dame Edna, Alice Cooper and whoever else to tell us something that is irrelevent to hard working people paying insurance policies.
I want to know that my insurers are safety conscious and clever ......not moronic spendthrifts who think it`s clever to have minor celebrities advertising their stupid name change.

The ad campaign is costing
It's working too .... got you lot talking about it :!:
LOL I agree Calista......those are the best types of ad campaign.....the ones that insidiously get inside your head while your determined they dont......
kinda like the "if ya see sid, tell him" ones from years back lol

The Cillit Bang adverts got me talking - mostly "I'll never buy that - the ad drives me nuts". Just cos the ad is noticeable doesn't make it good.
Current example - the Maureen (directory enquiries) ads. Each and every one relies on someone misunderstanding the Maureen text message and believing that their husband, father etc is having an affair. I don't believe such negative ads would have the effect the company is looking for - it certainly leaves a nasty taste in the mouth whenever I here it.

Something must have gone wrong in the midlands, Virgin are usually on time, clean and comfortable and Arriva is more like being transported on a cattle truck through siberia mad

That's the Orient Express innit?
I was actually implying that Virgin are better than Arriva and that Network Rail are not a train operating company so the comparison was a little difficult.
Sometimes you've got to look at not the franchisee but those (the Government) who award the franchise to see where the poor quality originates.
Dunno how Arriva are doing on Cross Country since they took over from Virgin?

Thats true Cally lol
If I had a pound for every time I've burst into the Sheila's wheels song I'd have...well, lots of pounds confused and I hate the song.... I might give them a chance to quote me though!! smile
So when it comes round to renewing your car/home insurance and AVIVA comes back with the best quote, you’ll all go elsewhere lol
Happy new year!

Depends what you mean by Best !!!
I never ever go for the cheapest quote just because it`s the cheapest !!!!
There are so many other factors to take into account.
Like how much they've spent on advertising? that was a joke by the way
While i agree theres more to look out for when comparing quotes, when it comes to insurance, higher premiums doesn't always mean better cover or service.
It would be nice though if these insurers gave something back to their customers after 20 years claim free though, insted of making them pay for everyone elses claims.
