I had some chant playing a couple of years back (whilst I did my ironing - very soothing - the chant not the ironing) when my son said " What's that rubbish". " Monks mate" came my quick reply.

Stu - surely everyone is entitled to their own taste. And who is to say whether there taste is good or bad. it's ok to joke but to infer someone else's taste is that bad isn't fair. This world would be terribly sad and boring if everyone liked the same things.

What I thought was unfair was for you to infer that anyone who liked Coldplay had no taste. They merely have a different taste to yours - not a lack of taste.
I once made a joke (and it definitely was only a joke) about someone liking motown and I was launched into on here about maligning other peope's tastes.

It's not wrong, just a difference of opinion, alright we all have different tastes (thank God) but I can say that if I think something ..ie ColdPlay are shit...cos I do..cos its my opinion and that I think that anyone who likes them has no taste..cos again its my opinion..then I can ..cos i am expressing my opinion!

V true Alex - judging by the music threads on here theres as much difference as there is overlap and I for one applaud that no end. I'd hope others simply see this as areas where they don't agree rather than areas where the other person is wrong !

Some here have a different varied outlook to me.... that doea not make their faves Crap or shite... just different, I would have at least thought that on here we may have enbraced musical diversity in a better manner.... maybe musical appreciation is on a diff level to sexual understanding and appreciation... I had hoped not but some here seem to display characteristics that suggest otherwise

I think my little rant last night seems to be tptally out of sync with what I was actually trying to say...needless to say I wasn't in a great frame of mind having had some untoward emails etc.
I have to say if I offended anyone....sorry...my original post was tongue in cheek and it was my opinion..still is...maybe the "sharp" side of my keyboard came out too much. After all the crap on here in some recent posts about opinions etc, I was off on one defending peoples' rights to air their opinion....whoops....I overdo it again.
I hope no harm done and I agree we all are entitled to our tastes....howver i still think Coldplay are shite..lol...

Rather than negativity towards a particular band why not tell us what your tastes are? 
I think that the type of music an individual enjoys tells something of that person. As people visit this site to meet people then knowing musical taste is another piece to the jigsaw of picture we build up of people who post in this forum. :P

Maybe perhaps you should count backwards from 10, take a deep breath and then have a long think about what you want to say.
Then, once you have typed it out, read it to ensure it is what you actually mean to say, before you press the 'submit' button.

Rachel...already did..way back on this thread, but let's say it is eclectic from Rachmaniov to Rage Against the Machine, Big Country to Bahaus, Kylie to the Kinks, Abba to Angel and the Baalam, the Doors to D12, Eels to Eminem, Cypress Hill to Chopin, Yousef Latief to Sonic Youth, Sinatra to Smash Mouth!
I'll pretty much go for anything bar ColdPlay, Boy Bands, and the Pop Idol/Fame School clan!
As to a type of music a person enjoys telling something about that person, I'm not so sure after all not many Right Said Fred appreciators also like Napalm Death...yet I have both in my collection. What does that tell you about me? I would say that I am an open minded appreciator of music, but when I know I don't like something I really don't like it.
ColdPlay's Parachutes was once in my collection for a brief period, then it did a great deed and went to the Salvation Army Shop...I don't know if provided any Salvation for being sold for 50p but it certainly gave my ears great salvation!!!!!
