alternative ulster by slf, yea i was a punk rocker and still am in so many ways lol
staggy the punk rocking Deer

Yep, I can relate to all of that! I would also add Wasted Life by SLF as another great intro to a song. Great band live too.
Another intro I like is Whiskey In The Jar by Thin Lizzy.
mine would have to be Insomnia by faithless, a truly captivating song, especially the extended club mix....one word describes it...awesome
Reminder to self - Read the bloody title first! :small-print:
I was trying very hard to think what an intro to a SNOG would be.
I was more along the lines of "come here big boy" redface

Tuesday's Gone
under the bridge - RHCP
ciggarettes and alcohol - Oasis
'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'
Opening track on Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' album. Very long haunting intro, several minutes, guitar and synth brass, best listened to on water for an out-of-phase surround sound effect.

And "Wish You Were Here" (the track) is bloody fab too!

I have to go with that one .... can't beat it. In fact the whole album does it for me.
One again I have to agree with myfriend Agricola
Baker Street is an all time classic that was my number one choice but you beat me too it!
Waterloo Sunset (Ray Davies - not that woman who covered it later) and Bittersweet Symphony are also great songs with great intros.
Big hugs,
Alex x x x
I have to agree with you both Agricola and Alex,
Gerry rafferty, Baker Street.
Now Alex !!!!!!! Have you been in my drawers ????
For pure simplicity and energy the single guitar chord intro to a Hard Days Night..
Oh and while we are on the Beatles how about the intro to My Sweet Lord..
Or the Marseilleise at the beginning of All You Need is Love
Davy Jones confusion as he checks the intro on Daydream Believer
...and does anyone remember Wipeout??..The wierd scream??

OK, it's a bit naff, but I know you all love it...
"Weeee-eeee-eeee-eeee-e-e-e-e-e-lllllllllll.....

Crikey, there's been some excellent intros mentioned here.

Ok, hands up..........I did the same thing
My taste in music is quite varied, but I do prefer rock music........the sort that encourages you to get your air guitar out lol
So, already listed, Sweet Child of Mine, Layla, Shine on you Crazy Diamond are great tracks.

Guns and Roses - Sweet Child of Mine, without a doubt
Even got it as my ringtone .................... (eerrrrr did I just say that out loud redface surprisedops: )

And me smile
And, OK, I was also at school in the punk rock days and 'Pretty Vacant' certainly had an intro that made you take notice.

Do we get a rendition of this at the Notts Munch, Ice??? :karaoke:
Stuart (this time writing without the assistance of Tanina) hump xxx
My favourite intro is also my favourite song - Perfect Skin by Lloyd Cole and The Commotions.
Others worthy of note are I Wanna Be Adored by The Stone Roses, I Trawl The Megahertz by Paddy McAloon and Blue Monday by New Order. The jaunty jingle-jangle of This Charming Man by The Smiths is also high up there.

I'll do Shout if you do Rockaria - just to see which bass man can screech the highest
Has to be Nirvana - Smells like Teen Sprit for me.
First few bars and I'm a gonner!
if ive gbot timetmorrow im downloading all of these songs, you keep mentioniong stuf myu ex wife has kept from my cd collection . bloody nirvana never missed it till now cheers mate
zak and sara - ben folds
Number of the beast - Iron maiden
the final countdown - europe
her ghost in the fog - cradle of filth
what doesn't die - anthrax
That's just stuff i've listened to tonight, there'll be loads more.
Hows about a bit of prog rock?
Close to the Edge by Yes - weird birdsongy synthy drones then a turmoil of wild, spintered guitaring by Steve Howe - and then the sweet lead guitar theme and then the sitary rhythm stuff that emerges before the vocal - getting on 3 minutes before that comes in I think.
But,heck,on the other hand - Rainbows is right - Smells like teen spirit, yes!
Ive had a good think about this and come up with a few more.
The Smiths-The queen is dead has a great intro, with the cockney singing at the start and then the drum beat coming in.
New Order-Blue monday the extended version, what a perfect intro.
Massive Attack-Unfinished sympathy where its counted in and then the background music comes in,a real shiver enducing intro for me.
I'll have to spend most of today downloading too! I totally agree with Baba O'Reilly. I am surprised no-one has mentioned Hotel California, by the Eagles especialy the live version. More up to date what about Race for the prize, the Flaming Lips, it's the song they usually open their set with, and gives me goosebumps every time.
whiskey in a jar- Thin lizzy its a classic

Oh and while we are on the Beatles how about the intro to My Sweet Lord..
sorry to be a spoilsport but that was a george harrison solo song , not the beatles and it was the first solo project released by any memeber of the beatles after there split in the early 70s.
good intro tho .
howabout "cant get enough of your love" by Bad Company , you can hear the drummer counting in the beat at the start .3.4. crash goes the drums awesome
Just the intro?
Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots
Deep Purple - Black Night
Deep Purple - Smoke on Water
Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
