You got there me, I did nievely think the soft cell version was the original! Oh little do I know!
A rather obscure one... Propaganda's "Sorry for laughing" , not just because it's a truly great track, but mainly because the original (by Josef K) is so bad it's laughable.
Second that emotion by Japan - a far supeior version (IMHO) than the original by Smokey Robinson and the miracles
Also ( and i may get shot for such sacrelige) but i much prefered Paul Youngs version of wherever i lay may hat - to the original by Marvin Gaye
I could go on - but fear the ribbing would get worse!

Oh - and Kylie Minogue did The Locomotion (orginally by Little Eva) quite well too!!
Johnny Cash' cover of Nine Inch Nails "Hurt"
Bugger I seem to be repeating myself (See the video thread)
WOW! I just "aquired" said video and song - christ, it's good. Loved Reznor's original, but Cash adds an amazing depth to it. And the video, christ!
Thanks Jack. Added to all-time favs ever!
I agree that it's rare indeed for a new version to beat the original, but I do like M People's version of the Small Faces' Itchycoo Park.
