Well it had to happen but they've found a dead Swan in Fife thats tested positive for H5 bird flu. They wont know till Thursday 6th April whether or not its the H5N1 strain and they're not telling anyone where abouts in Fife the bird was found so we don't know where to avoid !!!
Nothing to do with swinging I know but suppose it merits being here as news I hope.
Davie
Let's hope it's a false alarm eh Dave?
If you're interested there's a lot of useful "official" info .
Not a false alarm i'm afraid i'm watching BBC news 24 and they're only talking about this story. They're saying that it'll probably be the H5N1 bird flu. Nothing for us humans to really worry about as the only way we can get it just now is by direct contact with the dead birds or there faeces. Just thought i'd let everyone know in case anyone keeps pet hens ( there are plenty lol ) or know anyone that works in the poultry industry.

wouldn't be so ammusing if there was an oubreak of it in this country!!
Somehow don't think Lemsip would do the trick rolleyes

Yawn, nobody will get this flu let alone die from it. It's juts this year's scare. I remember a few years ago we were all going to die from this flesh eating virus, then it was Asian flue, before that herpes blah blah blah. It won't happen, calm down.

well i hope nobody in this country will get it, but it is important that the media keep us informed of a possible outbreak so that everyone can be vigilant and therefore guard ourselves and our island from this disease!

It will if this swan is found to have the strain H5N1 which is fatal to humans. Let's hope it doesn't.
Good job it is bird-flu and not bloke-flu - the country would come to a stand-still!

They can't say it Probably will be the H5N1 strain, they have no way of knowing. H5N1 relates to the antigens present on the surface of the virus. Until the PCR is completed no one knows if the virus is H5N1 or not.
how ironic that it was found on the very day they ran a mock test of their procedures?
all these bemused DEFRA types going "What they on about a swan in Fife? it's meant to be a bloody ruddy duck on rutland FFS! can't organise a piss up in a brewery these lot?"
neil x x x ;)
Yikes ! Not good news but hopefully the safety procedures now in place can prevent it from spreading further even though control over migratory wild birds is nigh on impossible.

Sorry, I had to do it smackbottom
No-one seems to quite get that the people who died all kept or were in constant close proximity to birds in unsanitary conditions.
You're more likely to die from choking on a bird than from bird flu.
off and on i have had budgies since i was a nipper, all my birds flew :!:
so wots so special about fife.
all joking apart best of luck to yer hen

Thanks mike lol , they can take the pis* if they like I only posted it since it was in the news and altho nothing to do with the "scene" I think its something we need to think about. Only thing we need be carefull about is do NOT touch dead or dying poultry / geese / swans better to call the DeFRA hotline and keep well away.
Since the only "birds" I touch are the 2 legged , 2 armed , normal human headed variety I think i'm safe lol.
