Can you give a bit more detail, there's a few programs that try to convince you they're a virus but are just a way of getting you to buy a specific program to remove it (although there are other ways). Also, do you have the original installation discs that came with the laptop (you might not have had any though with the budget machines) Whats the make and model?
I'm not too far away from you and travel to Brum about twice a week, i'd be happy to have a look at it if you want.

Just said to LFB.....MEATY!!!!! Where is he?
It one of the spam progs to get you to buy their software, they're usually not the sort of virus to harvest your details (but don't use it for any security based things- banking or shopping etc)
Depending on which one it is depends on if it can be removed easily or the system needs a full reinstall. just make sure you don't click on any links it gives you.
If its 3 years old then i'm guessing you probably use XP on it? Worst case is it just needs a full reinstall- do you have much on their you wish to keep? (pics/contacts/favourite pages/docs/programs etc?).
If you haven't then a full reinstall would be the best option to give you a fresh start, i could do this quite easily- i have a copy of XP on volume licence so you should still get windows updates.
you need to look what site its sending you to and then google the solution, but quite a few of them require a fair bit of work and often need you to boot up from a copy of XP on disc so you can remove locked files from the registry.
Have a look and PM me if it looks too tricky and we'll see if we can sort out a solution
Hi,
I removed the same thing from a friends pc a few weeks ago. Download , when you start the program run check for updates to get the latest spyware definitions then perform a full scan. If it doesn't find it while you're logged into the second account, start windows in safe mode (keep pressing F8 while the pc is starting and a boot menu with a safe mode option should appear) log on to the infected account and run Malwarebytes from there.

Another thing to try first would be a system restore to a point before the problem started. If that gets rid of it then you should be able to update AVG and Windows, and then scan to remove it.
To get system restore running you're better off in 'safe mode' - usually accessible by holding F8 when you switch it on. Then click 'start' and go into help and support.
