We're busy decorating a spare room. I've been all over looking for wallpaper and decided upon chocolate and fawn yeah I know... how different!
But on my travels, I've noticed black wallpaper!.. black with velvet patterns on also. It's really sexy and very striking. But which room would you use it in? It's so daring I wouldn't know where to put it?
Accessories are similar, motif type candles all black, cushions, wall pictures, they're fab!
I'm sure there's a budding interior designer amongst us who could advise.. cool
A friend of mine had a black living room with deep red sofas and black carpet. It did look good but i do prefer the traditional look. I can imagine it could get a bit depressing aswell.

I could imagine too much of the wallpaper could make the room dark, but what if you just used the colour on a main wall? I don't know it's so unusual tho.. smile
Think that the use of mirrors with dark colours to reflect light is important in say a dining room. Saw a gorgeous one lately with 3 very large oblong mirrors on one wall which looked excellent.

I think a nice siver/grey/cream would go nice with 1 or two black walls.

I think you are right, the wallpaper would all depend on how you would accessorise the room x
I stayed in a themed hotel one night with a partner. Each of the suites was highly decorated we chose the black one. Its very impressive at first and unusual and exciting to have black all around you.
However I would find living long term a bit of a challenge. Plus black can often show up a lot of dust and dirt. Got to keep things tidy as you do....

I'd use that in the dining room but only on one wall ( or just on the chimney breast if you have one and paint the other walls a light grey. Warm the room with accessories in reds and purples. Don't use more than 2 contrasting colours or it'll look too busy.
Clean white linen and black crockery looks fab too

I knew somebody in France who had designed and built his own house. Everything was unfinished but he did have a small bathroom that was completely covered with black carpet tiles, walls, ceiling and floor !!!
All fittings were black as was all the woodwork.
It certainly got people talking but i`m not sure it was the blackness or the carpet tiles on the walls loon

yeah I think that would be overstepping.. a tad!
Black red and white are excellent for a striking combination of colours.
One wall black the others white with red carpet and white or black furniture .... combine black/white and red accessory wise to what ever balance seems right to you. I think any room can work depending on the balance of dark to light.
Oh one tip make sure you match the red as it can come in an enormous variety of shades
Here is an article on using Black, White and Red as a colour scheme.
Best of luck

So.. is grey the in colour also for this season? I like grey but worry it can be a dower colour. Next have some fab black accessories and crockery, I'm just in love with it all.. trouble is I don't know how to pull it all together. I would love the black/grey theme in my living room. smile

Black and warm reds go well together as someone said before. The black theme could make the room dark but that can be solved with the right kind of lighting OR use the darkness to your favour and create a nice dim relaxing room. Give it a nice open fire or a lookie likely that fits in with the colour scheme. If you do it right you could make it a lovelly room to relax in

It's all about accessorising. My sitting room is very neutral cream, light furniture, cream curtains, laminate flooring etc etc but with 2 terracotta sofas. You only need a little colour to bring it all together. The trick is not to use more than 2 contrasting colours
You can get some really nice black candles if you like them. They always look nice.

Thanks Sassy, you sound like you have the "flair".. most of my house is neutral, the kitchen, hall, because I'm finding it safer.. if you have any pics of the black/grey together I would really really appreciate them (in PM of course) xx
I'll see what I can find hun.
If you like doing this sort of thing, check out your adult learning centres and see if there's an interior design course running. I did one for 10 weeks before Xmas and it was great
Decorating our house is a constant battle! lol
Mrs Kiss prefers minimalist, light and airy, where as I prefer antique furniture and mysterious, dark and sexy!
If I was allowed  I would use that back wall paper in the alcoves either side of a chimney breast. Paint the remaining walls burgundy and have several iron candle holders fixed to the walls.
Not forgetting the iron bedstead with lots of pillows, textured throws and silky cushions.
A fantastic shag nest!

I wish i hadve done this at college sad I've alwasy liked interior design and hated when its don badly. I remember walking into my sisters living room that she'd deisgned herself, everyone was praising her and the first thing i said when i walked in was "urgh"
hmm were trying to decide how to decorate our bedroom! its a HUGE room and at the moment very white!
white carpet, walls etc etc etc!
we need a new bed and i love the idea of black, white and red together!
where was the wallpaper?
sally x
I have one room in black red and white - we use it to entertain and eat in, it looks fab and quite dramatic in the evening lit for dinner. I have loads of red and black candles and a huge array of same b/r/w crockery. I also wear a lot of b/r/w/ combination too, it will all be passe in a year or so, as it's the current interiors trend but i have always loved red predominantly having had a very deep traditional red dining room before in gorgeous O&L wallpaper.
Red is supposedly good for enouraging converation hence good news for a dining room. Works for me for have quite fun dinner parties actually innocent

Well we have black walls, a black sofa, black floors, black door handles, black light switches and black tables. We have a white ceiling.
We like restoring classic cars.

Well believe it or not, it was in Decoflair which is somewhere I never ever use (everyone's living room at one point looked like Deco's show window! lol)..so I was pleasantly surprised. We have just lately been going to a little shop near us which is dedicated to wallpaper coverings of all kinds but I'm talking posh per roll was our last one but very worth it. I wouldn't pay that for kids' rooms tho!
Next do nice wallpaper but most of theirs look the same to me.

I thought about using some striking wallpaper in our bedroom- but try as I might I couldn't get it past him indoors rolleyes
Much as I love him, if it was left to Mr W the whole house would be floor to ceiling Fleur-de-lys!
No, Im not joking.
It's coming along by the way, I've just finished all the glossing & have painted the walls ceiling & above the picture rails. Having to do everything myself-including all the heavy humping- as Mr W still having post surgery problems, so it's taking me ages.
The flucking pearlescent paint turned into a nightmare- trying to get it to not be streaky is a virtual impossibility.
Anyway, painting is all done. I have bedside lamps- which I want to trim with beads, and have bought the bedding. Now all I need is the furniture delivered, a light, and "something" at the window! Oh, and a mirror for over the bed. I bought one for another wall the other day, it's lurvely!
I'm having an internal debate about if a boudoir really needs a chandelier or not right now! confused

We have strip spotlights believe it or not, the strip is leather bound from Next and so sets the scene with the dimmer on it down low, all the spotlights can be placed in very nice parts of the room wink
