Today his Tonyness is expected to announce his leaving date..
What I wonder is this.....
Should it not be the public who votes for his sucsessor dunno
Do people vote for the party in a general election or do they vote for the front man/woman :dunno:
After all....Isnt it the leader that steers the party in terms of policies etc :dunno:
Personally I feel the country should vote for the new leader as its the country that put the party into power initially...
How do you feel..
I concur.
It should not be left to the children, aka politicians, to squabble it out amongst themselves. There is far too much dishonesty as it is "you scratch my back and I will drive your jag" etc.
But the way they see it because some people unfortunately voted the labour party in then it is the labour party who stay for the full term, even if it means replacing their leader.
The public does vote for the party and not the leader. i also think that we should be able to vote for the new leader but which one do we choose, theyre all as crap and corrupted as each other

Agree with this. Also how would you just vote for 1 out of how many politicians ??? over a thousand!
Well i'm not a lover of this Government or of Blair. But what a speech!!! give the guy credit he made me feel British and proud with it
the first time i've ever said this

WELL DONE TONY
But surely one leader may lead the party with different direction to another and so may not be as popular with the public... so if they stood as leader to get their party into number 10 they may not have been elected....
How can that politician then be elected as leader of a country that did note vote for his/her ethics dunno
After all......
Isnt fatty 2 jags supposed to be deputy :dunno:

so all that is wrong with the country, caused by Labour, has been undone by one 10 minute speech?
It would appear so....
Long Live Tony rolleyes
Tony Blair has announced he will step down as Prime Minister on June 27th, bringing to an end his 10-year stint in charge of the country. Blair first told Cabinet colleagues of his intentions at their regular 9am Thursday meeting at No 10, then travelled to his Sedgefield, Co Durham, constituency by plane to make a public pronouncement.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and Home Secretary John Reid will also be leaving office at the same time. Blair's departure paves the way for current Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown to take over as Prime Minister. Blair will remain as Labour leader until his successor is formally elected at a special party conference, and as Prime Minister until he hands in his seals of office to the Queen.
Labour's National Executive Committee will meet within 72 hours to agree the exact timetable for an election to replace both Blair and his deputy John Prescott. The whole election process will take about seven weeks, meaning Brown - if he is elected - will take office some time in late June or early July.
between blair going....june27th....and the new president.. sorry prime minister coming in to office late june early july...who the fook is going to be running the country rolleyes :scared:
I can't stand the man but he did bring about one thing I am grateful for - gay marriage.
Politics & Religion :eeek:
The speech was absolutely brilliant and would have been believable if we hadn't actually been here for the last 10 years
Great Speech ............ Rubbish 10 years! :giggle:
Just MHO! kiss
Sam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I wonder if George dubbuya wrote it for him dunno
To the greatest Pm in my short lifetime
All the best in the future
Good Luck Tony
I still cannot see why he does not see out his full term....set out to resign at least 6 months before the next general election...so a new leader of the labour party can be found...but when i voted for Labour...it wasn't just for the party but because Blair was the leader...if a new leader is elected...i don't think they have the right to be PM...that should come down to us the general public.

I vot for the local MP for my area as of yet allways Labour unless i disagree with a policy then i don't bother because they are all the same.
After all....Isnt it the leader that steers the party in terms of policies etc :dunno:
I'd say yes and no. The leader might have a policy idea for it to be thrown out by a parliament vote or a party vote which has happend a few times this last few years.

So the public have to simply put up with whoever the party who have done jack for most people during their terms in office see fit to elect...
Thats democracy for ya :dunno:

Well even with the remotest chance of people voting for a person and not the party then the public should choose....If this wasnt the case why do they choose their leaders so carefully.....they choose the most charismatic, camera friendly person.....

Personally I feel the country should vote for the new leader as its the country that put the party into power initially...

Maybe I'm just another cynic...
but isn't this just another good day to bury bad news?
Interest rates up again blasted into third place on the Blair (Brown) Broadcasting Corporation
He daren't announce it last week because he knew his party would be trounced even more than it was and he knew his long awaited announcement would take away the significance of the rate being returned to within a hair's breadth of what it was when he took office.
I guess he already knew the rate was going up!
just as an aside... who gets all this extra interest anyway?

Interest Rates no longer have anything to do with the politians...it was handed over directly to the Bank of England...so they could look after it properly without interfering politians...using them as a sweetner at election times!

You mean they handed control over to the Bank so that on the face of it the Bank would bear the brunt of critisism when interest rates rise wink

Yeah, right... but it is still a good day to bury bad news. I doubt that the Governor of the Bank of England got up this morning without knowing the Bank were going to put the rate up.

Yep - it's been common knowledge for days now so don't think that it's being buried. In fact if you read the newspapers, news online or any of the money websites then it was very obvious. I read about 10 days ago people being urged to move their mortgages (if possible).
I just hope that those who hold the strongest views are also the ones who exercised their franchise at the last General Election.
And I just hope that all those who think polictians are 'prats' and willing to stand up for election in the future and show the others how to do it??

Well as an eg: would you like the public to vote for the motorsports council committee chairman? or The local sports club.
Only members of that party or club or whatever it is have a right to vote on party or club matters we then decide to support that party or join that club.

As with any club/party/union call it what you like leaders have chang to put their views / belifs forward to the membership and the members chose based on that.
Personally I feel the country should vote for the new leader as its the country that put the party into power initially...
Couldn't say if you are right or wrong. It just don't work like that. Democracy only works in steps, if we voted for evrything we wouldnt have time to be here lol
How do you feel..

they may have to consult....but they have the interests of the lenders...where as the government only has the interests of itself!
