Just been watching French TV about femmes fatales which featured (amongst others) Jane Birkin..
Remember
What else can you remember as being banned by the BBC?
How about the with Brigitte Bardot and English sub-titles?
It's what Sundays are for!
Come to think of it, having read the sub-titles in English, I can just see the old farts at BBC towers creaming themselves in their pants listening to that and realising what was being said!
Magic Roundabout by Jasper Carrot. I think it was the B side to Funky Moped :giggle:
frankie goes to holwood .. 'relax' first banned on radio 1 by mike reed

Looking back now it doesn't seem THAT bad especially when you see some of the vids on MTV Dance channel....
I only watch it for the music honest Guv innocent
Good idea for a thread GnV - of the top of my head I can recall:
"Jungle Fever" by Los Chakachas
"Love to Love You Baby" by Donna Summer
"Big Seven" by Judge Dread
They can all be heard on
(Edit: I am talking audio here, not video.)

"Big Seven" by Judge Dread

He made a career from having ALL his stuff banned from radio if I remember rightly :giggle:
but they were a tad rude redface
Little number called Starf*cker by the Rolling Stones, think it was banned most places
There was a time when bands actively tried to get their records banned by Radio 1. Once it was banned, everybody went out and bought it even if it was rubbish. Instant hit and anti-establishment cred in one fell swoop.
The thing with Relax always made me smile. It had been played nearly 100 times by Radio 1 before Mike Read came over all sanctimonious. Of course, he's that conceited, he takes the credit for making it a hit.

Stranglers "Golden Brown" raised a few eyebrows ...was it ever banned ??
I only really mention it because a customer recently came in laughing away and said that her children had heard the song for the first time on the radio that morning in the car and had asked .....
"Why are they singing about Gordon Brown ?" lol

Not sure about that one but 'Peaches' was a little near the knuckle for the time
What about Teenage Kicks by The Undertones? All about wanking and that's still played
Lola by The Kinks - was years before I found out with was about Trannies

I think it's mistranslated. Assuming the word they've translated as "loins" is "reins" cos that's what it sounds like, it actually means kidneys, which casts a slightly different light on the whole song. "...you come between my kidneys" suggests a rather prosaic approach to buggery. dunno
i'm a wanker by ivor biggun & the red nosed ......(and he ended up on esther rantzens program).

They are similar but kidneys is "reins" and the words "et je me retiens" translates to "and I remember".
So I think you are right, there is a mistranslation somewhere.
Lyrics
I wonder if they recorded it "on the hoof" so to speak :rascal:
C-moon by Paul Mcartney was banned there was a line about a "body gun" the "B" side became a hit instead.
Max Romeo.............
"everytime i go to sleep i have a wet dream"
that song was famous and banned in around 1968
.....
The day they play The Santa Clause song by Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson I'll know for sure Radio 1 is really 'down wiv da kidz' :giggle:

I don't think it ever got banned Flower. I remember when it came out and some Radio 1 DJ saying that it showed a softer, more gentlemanly side to the notorious punk rockers. rolleyes  Not sure at which point they clicked what it was really about, by which time it was probably too late.
Relax was probably the one I mainly remember. Think Mike Read was kind of OKish with it until he saw the video, at which point seems he had an apopleptic fit. Still pretty near the knuckle even now I reckon. Can't say I've seen watersports feature in that many pop videos since.
Neil x x x ;)

As is 'Turning Japanese' by The Vapors
I remember when terrorists weren't allowed their own voices on telly. I think the BBC dubbed it really badly on purpose to prove they weren't breaking the law.

And I Touch Myself by Divinyls which is about as blatant as it gets lol
You Can't Touch This by MC Hammer is about being dogged in a locked car.
It's true!!
But I digress, Buddy Holly was not banned by the BBC but he was banned from playing in Lubbock, Texas for being a deviant rock and roller!
