Did anyone see on the news the craze of train dodging while filming it on mobile phones
what with happy slapping as well
do you think it is a good idea to let kids have video mobile phones
this thing may have gone on before
but you didnt haer about it as much
have the video mobiles increased this stupid behaviour confused:
No, you can't blame it all on video mobiles.
As teenagers we did stupid things too. Like roof-surfing down the motorway at 120km ph. The only difference is today kids have a means to record their stupidity for prosperity.
Happy slappers on the other hand.... bunch of bloody young thugs mad
I think the media are trying to create a moral panic. Yes this kind of behaviour has always gone on. I think you have to remember there are a lot of good young people out there.
i know there are a lot of good sensible young people out there
its just these idiots that are causing the media to tarnish all kids with video mobiles with the same brush
it just more hi tech these days
take text bullying for example
The media has a lot to answer for i dont think id have done the old evostick in a bag trick when i was younger if i hadnt read it in the bleedin papers. loon Information is more available nowadays what with the internet and such Wouldnt have know about daisy chaining or dare i say it swinging!!!!! wink
again its the availability of technology in different mediums that makes things that have been going on for years more accessible to more people

policemen could give kids a clip round the ear
tv was not widespread
newspapers were not into dramatisation of trivial thuggery
and you knew your parents would whack the crap out of you
* blame the lilly livered pantie wetting liberals not video phones
My parents used to have a condo in Florida and my mother caught my sister and I jumping from a second story balcony into the 6 foot deep pool. The pool was quite far from the building as well.
Thats just a minor example of what I used to get up to as a kid. We didnt have video phones waaaaaaaay back then.
i totally agree with you there
most kids dont get any discipline at schools nowadays
i not saying beat the crap out of them
but you knew that the deterant was there and what would happen if you stepped out of line
i had to be disciplined a few times at school and i dont think ive turned out too bad
Before we all start blaming the teachers and police for not disciplining the young nowadays, just think for a minute they can't anymore.
The kids now know they have more so called rights, than i or anyone else my age ever had.
Teachers and police are just laughed at as there hands are tied by leftie tree huggers, who think no one should be in jail. It's always someone else's fault if kids misbehave, and why should they actually have to take responsibility for there own actions, somewhere, someone else will have to pick up the pieces and have to pay for it.
My parents would beat me as a child.... never did me any harm
but only when I deserved it
Now I have to pay for my spankings redface
I know, shocking isn't it..
so many things that I always believed are what made me what I am, are now frowned upon by the PC society in which we live, and I think that on the whole, we have suffered for it.

Take your point but you couldn't advertise it to millions of people like today.
Obviously, just because you see something doesn't mean you have to do it but 1 day people will realise what an influence modern technology (TV, internet, video games etc) has on people (especially the young and easily influenced.
We all learn through what we see and if there's nobody around to police what's good and bad, some of the bad will unfortunately stick.
I'm mainly concerned about the violent effects rather than your roof surfing but I gues it's the opportunity for people to show off with video phones for example that gives them the kick.

Thanks Ellie, I was thinking the same just before I read your post. Before blaming anyone in authority, people need to look a little closer to home to see where kids should be disciplined. I was only ever actually smacked once by my dad; he had one of those 'don't even think about it' looks (which I seem to have inherited lol ) and simply didn't need to smack us.
My children are the same - I didn't need to smack them. However, they also had very clear rules that they knew they had to follow. They still do now that they're teenagers, although the rules have to change a little as they get older, to reflect the fact that they are growing up.
Several of the children I teach (9/10/11 year olds) just don't have the respect for their parents or other adults that I had as a child. They swear and hit out at their parents - said parents allow the kids to get away with it and the cycle continues. Physical punishment isn't as necessary as letting children know what their boundaries are and making sure that they stick within those boundaries. I have been told to 'fuck off' and hit by a couple of children in my class; the children were excluded but came back with attitude. Their parents don't care, as long as they don't have the kids underfoot all day.
Those children are now amongst the better behaved in my class because I laid down the law as to what would be expected of them. With support and help from colleagues, as well as perseverance, it worked - the kids know how far they can go. I have to admit to resorting to childish behaviour myself at times. This included ignoring them, not choosing them for nice jobs or activities, giving them extra work, keeping them in at playtime etc, until they learned to be nice to me and the other children in the class. It worked.

A few weeks ago my eldest was mugged by a large group of girls for a cigarette. Today I read that another girl was killed in the same kind of incident.
Scares the shit out of me to be honest.

Ummm... no, we didn't. Or at least, I didn't. dunno
I don't know what's wrong with teenagers today; they seem to leave their brains behind when they hit 13.
I did plenty of stupid things, difference is, I used to run away from any adults I saw coming...........as opposed to toward them with a big bat.

redface Sweeping generalisation there......
As teenagers a lot of us did stupid things too, is what I meant to say surprisedops:
And shhhhh....don't tell my kids.
But to answer your question, it's the hormones what's wrong with them, that and the influences of the parents. Our kids represent us by the behaviour they display.

I heard about this sort of thing and I'm ready for em!, probably be too scared to use it, but it's comforting to know it's in the car boot if I need it.
