Body casts...

After seeing a delectable boob cast at the weekend I've decided that I want a bum cast! :rascal:
I've found my willing volunteers to help with the messy stuff and in fact it was their fault cause they mentioned plaster! I've purchased the Bum Cast to be delivered to work... not sure that was a clever idea!

Anyway... I have my doubts that my arse is gonna look as good as this one though...

What I'd like to know is whether anyone has done this before?
If so, can we see pics please?
How easy is it?
And are we going to end up in a heap on the floor laughing covered in plaster?! :giggle:

I don't have any piccies but have played around with casting kits. Sometimes - the alginate can go off quite quickly - other times its doesn't quite take and your left with a bit of a mess lol

Only tip I have is - work quickly and remember that it picks up every little detail. So if you have a spot on ya butt or a hair visible - that's what ya get in your casting! Unless - your confident enough when your final casting is dry to sand it out with very fine sanding paper (use a mask if sanding). Oh and use some plastic sheeting or something - as it can be messy!
I use the Modrock (plaster bandages) for other stuff - like adding to the outside of wire sculptures to build it up, making molds of items/shapes I like etc. Its one of those things that's a bit moorish and I love playing with.
Errmmm if you have any Modrock left and decide to use it elsewhere - don't apply it straight to skin (can burn once it dries as plaster gets hot). Also have heard of cases where the fire service had to be called and some poor person had to be chipped out of cast with a hammer and one of those cutting machines that don't hurt the skin!

In Edit: Artist friend of mine has made casts of her bum every five years... amazing how the shape of ya bum changes over the years. She uses gum paper... which is also great for making face masks if you ever feel the need :lol:

Its amazing how the smallest details are picked up and depends on how you want the finish.
Have you thought about how your going to do it? Just bum, hands on bum, hands tied behind back? Wear undies, bare bum, drape material over?
Oh, just to forewarn you - the alginate is very cold when it first comes into contact with the skin. Actually - its quite a nice feeling :smile:

We had a full cast (Neck to leg) of Rachel - and it is superb.
Problem is only playmates have seen it as its too revealing to show family! lol!
Not cheap, but unique.
If you get it done, use a real pro as some "cheaper" ways come out quite crap.
We used one of the guys who shows at Erotica and is one of the "core arty" people for the show.

I think I may have to rethink the logistics of actually doing my bum cast. It's one thing getting it down south in the box as it is now but it's a whole other kettle of fish getting it back home on the train in one piece!! lol

I suspect my vanilla is going to get a messy treat! :rascal:

I love this site. Today I was at an art project meeting discussing ideas for presenting pain. I almost told them where my idea of body part casts came from but I bottled out. Needless to say it looks like I will be indulging in some casting.

I have never used any casting kits so do not know what they contain and how they work, however, I have used plaster strips (ModRoc) so here is a description how to do:
- buy a couple of packs as it's better to have more than run out midway...
- get a bowl with warm water
- cut the strips in manageable lengths, 3-4 inches
- get subject to lie down in a comfortable position supported by cushions if necessary but don't forget a plastic underlay as this is messy work. Also protect floor nearby.
- use nivea cream or vaseline on subject's skin
- protect genitals with a piece of clingfilm
- place some strips in bowl of water to soak
- remove a strip, let it drip into bowl, then apply to skin and smooth over with fingers
- continue applying strips making sure one is slightly over the previous one (so no strips just hanging on their own, always attached to others) - this ensures strength
- once first layer is done, work on second layer, but this time lay the strips in a different direction (so if you were doing North to South, now do East to West)
- place third layer in a different direction yet.
- subject will already feel the nice warmth of the cooking plaster. If other parts of their body are exposed, cover with towels to keep warm - nobody likes catching a cold.
- 15 mins later the plaster should have set and be hard to the touch (though it won't be rock hard as there is still some flexibility.
- ask the subject to manipulate their muscles so you can gently lift the plaster off from the edges. The skin will easily peel off the plaster and then you can just lift the casting off.
- leave casting to dry fully whilst subject showers well and pats dry their skin. Moisturisation necessary so why not treat them to a nice massage with lotion...
- now comes the tricky part: you need to support cast on a table top using some pieces of wood on the sides (in workshops we have a well specially designed for this purpose)
- prepare plaster of Paris according to instructions on container - you will need far more than you think so for a bum casting, I'd recommend buying the bucket, not the box.
- pour into your casting
- shake gently to make any bubbles rise to surface
- break the bubbles (they weaken plaster)
- let dry for as long as necessary (again the plaster will heat up as it's cooking) - do not hurry the process and do not place near radiator or in the sun.
- unmold and ta dah! YOU GOT YOUR BUM CASTING!
- you can sand it with a very fine sandpaper if you want.
- dust and seal with sealant (pottery sealant will work or even just watered down PVA glue) - let dry
- now you can pain over it, decorated it with glitter or just leave it plain white.
It is a good idea if you are a beginner to start by taking a cast of your hand for example, so you can understand how materials work. If you are a man wishing to take a cast of his cock, remember to use clingfilm!!!!!
