correct
Okay...
You find yourself marooned on an island. It's rectangular, about a mile wide, E-W, and 2 miles long, N-S. It's covered with very dry grass - all over. You can't jump off the sides as the cliffs are too high and you wouldn't survive the drop; you can't hang off the edges because the edges are too weak to support you. You wake up one morning in the middle of the island and on the wind, you can smell fire. Loking south, you can see it coming..blown by the wind, 1 mile wide fire...
Survive. How?
... hard one...
all we can think about, and its a long shot, is to go north, set alight a fire yourself there, let the wind carry the fire on north, so it burns all the grass, then that fire will subside as the other fire comes towards you at the same pace. As the fire you have set has burnt the grass, then (if this is logical!!!) the fire threatening you can't continue as u've got rid of the fuel it needs (namely the dry grass). So if you stand on the land you set fire to, the fire from the south should subside and die once it hits the manmade land.
Thats what we reckon!!!
Perfect answer! Remind me to take you next time I'm on a small island!!
:-)
YAY!!!!
That was wrecking our heads for about an hour!!! At one point we just thought "Fuck It - Let the b*stard drown!!!"

Three people eat in a restaurant together. The bill arrives and is £25. They agree to split the bill and all put a tenner in each. The waiter returns with five one pound coins. They get a pound back each and give the £2 to the waiter as a tip.
So they have all paid £9 each (their tenner less the £1 back). Three nines are £27; plus £2 to the waiter totals £29. Where did the other pound go to?

There is no other pound:
"Three nines are £27; plus £2 to the waiter...."
Nope - the £27 includes the tip.

a conference room contains three seperate wall-mounted spotlights-right, left and front of is controlled by its own on-off three switches are numbered 1,2 and 3, but they are in a back room which has no sight of the spotlights or the conference room(and there are no reflections or mirrors, and you are alone). How do you identify each correctly- right, left, front - if you can only enter the back-room once????
if someone gets it right he will buy them a well deserved drink at the next munch!!!
happy thinking
louxxxxx
sorry sarge

I'd unscrew the lightbulbs, and take them into the back room with me, then I can see directly which light come on when I operate the switches. Either that or look at the lighting plan rolleyes

the police are looking for a bloke called bud!, they enter a house and theres a lorry driver 2 plumbers and a bank manager sitting around a table, no-one says anything,.......... the police walk up to the bank manager and arrest him.......... how do they know that he was bud???

The plumbers and truck driver are women. Either that or he's a really rich bloke and it says "Bud" on his personalised bottle of beer.
sorry, Mike beat me to it. sad

A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?

If tethered to a post in an open field, the diameter of the circle that the horse can walk to is 5m.... therefore the hay is easily within it's reach.
A 31" x 31" square metal plate needs to be fixed by a carpenter on to a wooden board. The carpenter uses nails all along the edges of the square such that there are 32 nails on each side of the square. Each nail is at the same distance from the neighboring nails. How many nails does the carpenter use? .... rolleyes

124.......... I think.......
A nail at point 0" .... then one every inch till point 31" . along two opposing sides this equals 64 nails........ now add in the two other sides - minus 2 nails each side as they are already in place - and you have an additional 60 nails.. making 124 in total.

128 nails, there are 32 on each side.

So the answer could be 124 or 128 then?
(I was wrong for saying no btw)
