another forum i occasionally look at (please forgive me lol) did a poll regarding breast feeding.
i was more than a bit shocked to find that over 40 percent of the people who answered were offended by the sight of a woman feeding her child in public, and felt that she should have to go and sit in a toilet or something.
to me i think there is nothing nicer than seeing a woman feeding her child, and wonder how anyone can be offended by it.
i wonder if these same people are offended by page 3 girls, or wether they think the whole point of breasts is wank foder?
like yeah i think i have nice boobies and all that, but they are a bit useless unless i use them to feed a baby one day.
do you think swingers being more open minded would mean we were less offended by natural things like this, or we are the same as the general population.

My nipper was breast fed and whilst shopping in a well known store she was hungry so her mother started to feed her as we strolled round you could not see anything as she was hidden by her mothers coat but the noisy tykes slurping sounds gave the game away and a shop assistant came and told us we had to stop. We explained that would cause even more of a problem as a hungry baby is a bloody noisy one. So we asked if thye had babay facilities and the answer was no so and we were told we could use the staff toilets. My reply was would you go and eat your dinner in the toilets?
I do find it sad that people are offended to something that is as natural as breastfeeding between mother and child. Since when did it become something to be ashamed off and has to be hidden? rolleyes
Maybe it has nothing to be with being offended.....maybe just feeling alittle uncomfortable,if someone was doing it right next to you on the bus maybe.
i have 3 kids and fed them all myself, how anyone can be offended by the sight of the most natural thing in the world is beyond me confused
as for them who think we should feed our children in a public loo all i can say is would you eat your dinner in a place other people pee and poo in? cause i know i wouldn't, if my child was hungry i fed there where i sat simple as wink

now this is what i find interesting.
what about it makes you feel uncomfortable?
to me, it would be no different to someone sat next to you feeding a baby from a bottle.

yeah what if your in a place where u really can't find anywhere private to feed your child? how long are people wanting these babies to go without food?
in this day and age where midwifes are more than ever trying to encourage women to feed their babies i can't understand why a ot of young mother wont, i think a lot would get embarressed by people pointing and moaning at them, personally i didn't infact it used to make me sit there longer to make as point rolleyes

i never said i felt uncomfortable.....i was just offering another word other than "offended"...if a woman wants to feed her baby in public by all means do so.....

sigh1 i thought i had it worked out that yopu were the one who picked the offended option then! lol
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I was sat in a cafe once and a lady sat down on the table next to us and started to brest feed and I thought it was so nice to see (In a non pervy kind of way).
It's really quite sad that people want, yet another, bit of natural society covered up.
to be honest tho if you see a woman breast feeding you can't really see anything anyway, its usually just the possition of the child that gives it away, oh and the odd slurp lol but as a rule the the baby of clothing usually covers you up pretty well, some people just like to moan rolleyes
i happen to think that all things to do with young babies is cute.... even nappy time!
i cant explain what makes people feel uncomfortable.... but i hazard a guess that those who moan about such things as breast feeding in public have yet to experience the joys of a new born baby.... ok , i accept that its not all sweetness and light but the buzz created by a new-born/ young baby is truly special.....
i guess that those who dont tolerate feeding in public fail to see the compassionate side of things... nor have they experienced the horror of a new-born screaming for food as Sheddy pointed out.
i actually feel that to deprive a child in this way to protect the disposition of a few is terrible. a hungry baby needs to be fed....to deprive it is tantamount to abuse.
its true that perhaps feeding mothers could find a discrete location bu tto offer the use of a toilet so as not to offend is outrageous.
i would think that any mother who is confronted and asked to refrain from feeding in public... if shes doing it discretely..... is more than justified to tell whoever is confronting her to "piss off".......
The only time it may be a problem is the fellas who like a bit as well :eeek: Thats probably best in private company innocent

No one complains about miniscule bikinis, skirts that masquerade as wide belts, tops that have less material in than an average pair of knickers, but they get offended at the sight of a baby feeding? I don't get it... Perhaps it's a case of "But I want it for sex. It's not right that it should be used for something else". As naughtynymphos said, it's not like you can see anything anyway, and a baby covers more area than some of the things I've seen women walking around in.
You'll also note that the ones getting most "offended" seem to be male... I don't have kids, but going out with friends with small babies is an education. Some were so intimidated by people glaring that we had to go elsewhere so baby could get it's feed. Not fair at all on the wee ones.
Perhaps it may be time to point out that women's breast's are actually there for the purpose of feeding offspring rolleyes
I only breast fed my first but I had no qualms about feeding her in public.... No-one ever complained but if they had they would have been on the end of a few choice words...
as a mum i always wanted the best for my little one so i chose to breast feed. i learned to live with the glares and stares for other people and had a few words to say at times
The main place being in a well know department stores mother and baby room where i was feeding after changing my son . A staff member popped her head around the door then i heard her say to sumone you cant go in at the moment someone is feeding .. I asked the assistant what was wrong and was told a father wanted to change his child but he could only use the mother and baby room if no-one was feeding . i cud hear the baby outside getting quite distressed and informed the staff member i had no problems with the man changing his child whilst i was present . the stsaff member informed me it was policy i therefore told her i didnt agree with her policy and therfore asked her if she would carry my bag and chair for me ...she looked very puzzeld ..i told her if the man wasnt allowed in whilst i was there i would leave and feed my child outside the door, whilst he changed his now screaming daughter. The lady just replied errm.......but she soon followed my request when i was out in the store standing with my child happily sucking on my breast. both babies were happy in the end ...but dont think the staff member was ...Never went back to the shop to feed or change again evil
Imust get a woman breast feed at least once or more a month in my work.... whats offensive? Its just part of life surely......
No, no offence ever taken here!

I'd like to hear from the 2 folks who voted that women SHOULD hide away.
I voted no as long as it's done with a bit of discretion. I don't have a problem with it as it's one of the most natural things known to man though I can see it could make some people uncomfortable to see a woman lobbing her tit out in the middle of Debenham's cafe. A strategically placed shawl or cardigan and you wouldn't even know she was doing it.

Sorry to quote you but you've hit the nail on the head for me! It's 100% natural, what do people think happened before they started putting baby food in jars.
i think some people are under the impression that women breatfeed just to offend them!
lol
the really sad thing is, it is often older people who are rude about it, when they above anyone should understand more as in their day there was not even the option of bottle feeding.

Probably only because they come from an era where that sort of thing was only done in private, even away from the rest of the family. It shows the great divide between the younger and older generations.
I feel sorry for us poor bastards stuck in the middle somewhere rolleyes
