Has any of you ever suffered from bruised ribs , I fell down some stairs at work at the end of October,
At the time I hurt my arm quite a bit and my back, The pain seemed to go away in my back , I carried on working , One morning about a week later when I was shaving a patient, I turned to get his foam and felt a huge pain go right up my side,It was so bad it caught my breath..I have been at the hopital 3 times now, been off work for 4 weeks  they said roughly 5 weeks to heal and have been taken painkillers ect, I can't get a decent sleep , laying down makes the pain worse sad
I'm wondering if a private Chiropracter would be able to help me as I am now at desperado stage, the pain driving me around the twist.
Sorry for the rant folks.. Just looking for advice from anyone that may have been in a similar situation - thanks

as far as i know, noty a chiropracter, plenty of rest is the best thing.
Have you tried to bring out the bruising with ice or somethng, that helps sprains and stuff. (i think)
BUt the prob with ribs, adn collar bones is there isnt much you can do with them.
Is it getting worse? or better?
have had broken rib before but not just bruised im afraid,
you need a bit more meat on you sides lucy, either thet or tell hubby to stop gripping so hard lol
Hope you get on the mend soon
kiss
Take it easy, and get plenty of rest, no heavy lifting, etc and plenty of bed rest rolleyes

hmm i doubt the wall climbing is ideal.
Do you have to get up in the morning? or are you able to stay in bed for a few days and rest it?
How about trying to strap it. Not sure you are able to in all honesty.
Lemme check something up
Hope you get better soon hun , i,ve not had bruised ribs but i,ve a condition in my foot ( can,t pronounce the word) and even painkillers don,t help was told by the doctor i may need a cortisone injection, but i sure do sympathise with your pain
:therethere: kiss
i found this trough google, not sure if its useful to you, but it will give you some idea as to how liong you have to suffer for
I recently fell heavily against a door handle in my apartment. Bruised ribs sad
On my experience, you can expect...
1 day: completely immobile
1 week: taking the doctor's megapainkiller tablets and no improvement
2 weeks: taking the doctor's megapainkiller tablets and a wonderful improvement
3 weeks: with a little pain doing everything you do and still taking paracetamol
4 weeks: not taking paracetamol but still feeling uncomfortable (like someone is standing on your chest all the time)
5 weeks: you can forget taking the paracetamol but now and again you get a twinge
6 weeks: back to normal smile Normal service resumed :)
Hi Lucy I suffered from this when i used to play rugby! It hurts like hell so you have my full sympathys. Although the last thing you need is a hug maybe a gentle arm round the shoulder. All you can do is give it time and pain killers. Do not and I repeat do NOT sneeze this is definatly the worst thing after coughing or laughing.( lol is a no no)
keep warm
one thing did help the pain but a cant mention it here pm me!!!
Phil
Been there, seen the fim and got the tee shirt, and have to agree with the comments from LSM and I think I know where NCB is heading..and got to agree with that as well smile
  Sneezing is the worst !!!

Just another thought, you could always get Dr Mal out of retirement and get him to do a home visit and fully check you out wink
My receptionist Sarah informs me you have a medical emergency. I arrived as quickly as I could, but unfortunately I have only brought along TLC :rose: :rose:
I hope they help, but make sure you get plenty of bed rest, and I mean rest!!
Mal
wink
Ahhh! Sorry to hear you are in so much pain Lucy! Nothing I can add regarding treatment except that time is a great healer. All I can give you is a hug and hope that dosn't hurt the ribs (well it's a cyber hug so that should be ok!) wink
Take good care of yourself hun!

hiya lucy!
hurts like hell doesn't it! i had a fall last year, when i was rather drunk, and it wasn't so bad till i sneezed a coupla days later and the agony kicked in. from then on even breathing was painful, let alone laughing coughing or sneezing. i think i dimpled a rib rather than bruised it, but there's not a lot you can do about either.
rest it as much as you can, and take the strongest codeine you can buy in combination with paracetamol or ibuprofen. they work better in combination for the pain, and help with any swelling. they made it bearable, but it will take a good while to heal up i'm afraid. sad

I've never recovered fully from bruising my ribs about 17 years ago. Can still feel it now although it's just a residue of feeling now, so wouldn't describe it as pain.
The lesions will stick to the damaged ribs and tear away at some point during the recovery (well something like that).
It takes your breath away doesn't it (the kind of pain that makes you gasp).
Heal quickly Lucy :therethere:
Sounds more like you pulled an intercostal muscle, I've done that a few times now, and by god it's painful, sure takes your breath away.
Intercostal Muscle Definition: muscles lying between ribs; often injured by rotary stress of the thorax.
Feels like a knife stuck between yer ribs, and catches you unawares every bloody time. It may have happened as you had bruised yer ribs and had been 'favouring' them putting more strain on the muscles.
You have my sympathy
Have you tried rubbing Arnica on your sore bits hunni? Might help if you have bruised ribs.

Thx Jon..
Doc at hospital says it could be a torn muscle between the rib as well as the bruising, prob why it's taking so long to heal sad ..My reckoning rolleyes

No Lucy
Arnica works by stimulating the activity of white blood cells that perform much of the digestion of congested blood, and by dispersing trapped, disorganized fluids from bumped and bruised tissue, joints and muscles.
Common use: It is typically rubbed on the skin to soothe and heal bruises, sprains, and relieve irritations from trauma, arthritis and muscle or cartilage pain. Applied as a salve, arnica is also good for chapped lips, irritated nostrils and acne.
All good chemists and health shops will have it
