Bugs Bunny and friends have been given a dramatic makeover, re-emerging as futuristic, sleek new superheroes.
Warner Brothers has remodelled a number of classic cartoon characters, catapulting them 700 years into the future for a new series, Loonatics.
Carrot-chomping Bugs Bunny is joined by animated favourites Daffy Duck, Wile E Coyote, the Tasmanian Devil, Road Runner and Lola Bunny.
However, hardcore fans are in for a shock – the trademark characteristics will be gone, as will their infamous names.
Bugs is set to be renamed Buzz Bunny, while Daffy Duck will sport a built-in sonar.
The friends will all be given superpowers to help them fight crime and be dressed in tight-fitting space gear.
Their names have not been finalised but will be derivatives of the originals. Set in the year 2772, the heroes are descendants of the beloved favourites.
Warner Brothers Animation is hoping the remodelled cartoon will charm young audiences and claims the characters will display the same wit and humour as the originals.
Company president Sander Schwartz said: “What we’re doing is taking Bugs Bunny, a classic, and changing him for the kids – making him fresh, cool and hip.
“This new generation shares the same DNA and sharp-edged wit as their Looney Tunes forefathers, and that’s where the similarities
The Saturday morning series is expected to hit US television screens later this year.
