ps. We got quite a decent one form Argos, £250 i think.
i have a sonycam dvd203 which i find it great, its probable more than you really want to pay. The reason i went for it was the dvd bit, you have a small re-writeable disc. Depending how you setup the disc depends on if you put it straight into a dvd player or you upload it to your pc and then you can edit it and record on to full size dvd.
obviously small disc are less bulky than the tapes even if they are quite small, or you have the mini hard drive versions.
My advice is start with which media you want ie: dvd, tape or hard drive then look at ease of use and weight, battery life and finally silly features.
hope that helps. and if you need a camera man to record you both in action im free innocent
or i could record you both on mine then you would see how versatile it is

Go to any store they have a huge range of camcorders. from mini dv(tape) to mini dvd to hard drive. the good thing is you can try before you buy and secondly if you are not happy they will happily refund it all because they have a 30 day no fuss policy.
things you should look out for.
the higher the ccd the better the camcorder.
optical zoom bigger the better
some dvd camcorderes are multi format (recommended.)
some camcorders can take stills too but quality is really bad.
also check whether camcorder has a light or a night mode feature on it.
stick with either a panasonic because the use leica lenses or a sony because they use carl zeiss lenses.
dvd camcorders are easy to use thats wat id go for. in particula the new sony dvd 106. biggrin
very informative for a 1st post Sex-tonight..
welcome to the forums....
and I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread...
ive no money... but I dooo like me gizmos

I'd advise going for Dv for various reasons. While DVD camcorders have the benefit of recording to a disc you can playback in many consumer DVD players, if you want to edit the footage to get rid of any problems you're probably going to have to invest in an analogue capture card and then suffer from degredation of quality as it's already compressed at recording and will probably get compressed when you digitise it into your computer (of use uncompressed capture and have huge files). Hard disk models have similar problems as they use Mpeg compression as well.
Dv has a much lower fail rate than discs and the advantage is that you can edit it very easily. Your pc will probably have a Firewire connector, you can get various free Dv editing software and it won't loose resolution when you capture it, neither will you have codec problems that come with analogue.
As was mentioned earlier, you need to look for a Carl Zeiss or Leica lens as your budget excludes high spec CCD's or 3 Chip cameras.
Built in lights are crap, buy a canon external light for about £30, and get a second battery, tripod and case.
Widescreen, steadyshot and nightshot are luxurys in your price range so stick to buying practical accessories above.
Have a look at this one, as it can also be used as a web cam and allows you to buy the accessories

Feel free to PM me with any questions, i do this for a living

the quality of loss is rather negligable, depends on what they want it for, without confirmation i would suggest its a point and shoot camcorder that is wanted.
but if you do it for a living i will bow to your knowledge.

Yep, I've used a P2 with 128Mb ram and just the system drive before now. Dv has a fixed data rate of about which is quite low for video. I'd recommend at least 256Mb ram and a second hard drive (USB2 drives are fine) and my first edit suite was a pentium, 512mb ram and 2x 120mb Ata133 drives which lasted me a good 3 years of cutting short films, promo's and doing some effects work.
If you capture using a standard Dv codec you won't need to render very much, probably just effects and a few dissolves.
The Blair Witch Project was cut on a fairly low spec system compared to what's available now, just with the addition of a broadcast spec capture card (Media 100) and the Effects for the first series of Babylon 5 were all designed on home pc's.
It's even better when you switch off all the crap running in the background of windows
blimey again...
cheers for all that Meaty biggrin
ive wanted for an age to be able to play with images etc on the machine >though always on the cheap, and purely for fun<... I shall be looking into this a lot more... ta again... eye-opener

Thank you all for your advice, There is quite a lot of information their and I shall now spend some time trying to decipher it! but it is all very useful. The camcorder is only for personal wink use. However you never know....
thanks again

All Hail the meatmeister worship
No. Really.

I was about to put it to the spending committee (me) that I invest in a new camcorder. Because mine is,
a. old
b. without the USB thing so won't be a webcam for her to show off
and
c. one with a tape. I thought ( ) that if I got one with a disk thing, it would be easier to make/edit HLBPorn.
We have put some clips up on another site and it's all been done so far using my JVC and laptop with no added programmes and stuff. The only thing I can't do that I'd like to, is to be able to blur/fuzz her face. Then she could show you all how she sucks cock

We have just spent the last three months looking for a new camcorder and the adivce we would give is that unless you want very basic point and shoot technology, keep away from the DVD ones. Also be very wary of the capacity of the hard drive ones (which now seem to be growing in popularity).
The hard drive ones often say that you can get 20-30 hours of recording, but when you look at the quality, it is very low. If you are intending to put the footage onto DVD, then you will need to record in a much higher spec and this then drops down to around 7-8 hours recording capacity. Not much if you are using this for an holiday or anything where you may not be able to get it backed up onto PC.
In the end we went for a Panasonic NVGS300 which uses tapes, mainly because of the high spec, good price but also because we want to be able to edit the footage, whilst still having the original should we need it (he does the odd wedding, but we wanted a new one mainly for a trip to Ausie later this year).
Brilliant timing for me too- contemplating investing in a new camcorder in the very near future. Our old one is fine, but I want to be able to put things on the pc & burn them to DVD's too.
Any advice therefore gratefully recieved
Depends on your budget miss winchy, feel free to pm me wink

Oh - and . . . . .
d. It's a bit big now, compared with the more moderner ones.
and
e. It does have a dodgy power connection, so we have to leave it on the tripod and I can't wander round with it when you're doing the RFA Wank thing; or the Mr Playdoh thing . . . . .

on top of your camera there might be a square plate (called a mounting or accessory shoe) the basic type is just a place to fit extras, like self powered lights which use internal or clip on camcorder batteries, a bit like this one

if it has a horseshoe shape in it it's an intelligent shoe and will power your light direct if you have the correct type.
I'll dig out some details on lights for you when i get to work

Nah - I was hoping for something like that, but there's no plates or holes I can't identify.
I'm off work today. so I might be able to find the distruction manual somewhere.
(I think maybe I might "need" a new camcorder afterall  )
id get a new one ! looks like that one is practising to be a parrot rolleyes lol
