ok so I've registered my nickname ,I have a key number I type it all in and hay presto

Which way are you trying to get in? I tried the MiRC software, and that took forever, but I found it much easier going through the site. But be warned, it's one hectic place.

I come onto SH and click chatroom then I get the box to enter,,, another box says
nickname,I type it in, and below it password I type in my key number (this could be my failing I dont know) then it comes up to connect ,,,,,then ,,, this is worse then coranation st,,,,, I click to connect and then loads of strange words come up like nickname not registered (but it is) and still cant get in to a chat room slash this space there hashthat
does it really have to be this comlicated never been on a chat room thats so hard to enter

At the password box, you need to type the password that you have choosen, not the activation number.

when you get the grey screen with the user name and password boxes, type in the nick you've regsitered, and the password you used when you registered, then click connect.
you'll then be on channel. then type
/ns activate 123456789 or whatever your activation number was.
and then type
/join #swingingheaven
you should be in then

If you seem to be getting stuck in a void between rooms, then may I suggest you join the help room.
Once you have entered your nickname and password, as Neil says not your activation number, all you have to type is /join #shhelp
On the #shhelp channel it is not restricted to registered nicknames on entry. It is there to help people register their nicknames correctly.
Oh and just so as you know, the reason for the registration of nicknames is one of the ways we reduce the number of numpties coming into the room and causing aggro.
Keep trying (but don't forget to read the rules b4 you enter).

lets assume you havnt been on before.
all you do is choose a nickname.
I'll call it "newbie2004"
thats all you type .. then hit the connect now button.
now you have to register this nickname. to do that you type
/ns register myemail@address password
(insert YOUR email address and choose a password you will remember).
then go and wait for the email to arrive at the email address you told em about. this can take several hours...
now assuming you quit the chat system, you now need to enter it again. so again just type your nickname.
once in type
/ns activate 754
(actually you put the long number they send you in the email)
now either type /join #swingingheaven or log out and put your nickname AND your password in and enter.
Thats it. word for word.... step by step. print out what I've written and tick em off when you have successfully completed them.

yes Niel I did , just tried again and got in once ( I think) and again only people in there????
then came out and tried again ,,,wont let me in AGAIN says I have to be registered ,but I am says the password for nickname ???????(or visa versa) is already registered ,,,yes to me, If I dont get this thing sorted out soon I shall give up for good dont wanna but my nerves wont take it anymore,,,yours truly tattered and worn nervous system

This is your registration information:
It looks like you managed to register successfully on Wednesday evening and then spent half an hour logged onto the server.
When you next get the chatroom entry box enter your nickname and your password (not the activation key) and click 'connect now'.
You should be taken straight to our chatroom but if not then try the following. Enter:
/ns id password
This will identify you to the server and if you have entered the incorrect password it will tell you. You will need to repeat the process until you get the password right (or until the server kicks you off for trying to hack someone elses nickname).
When you get the message 'password for twoofus accepted' enter the following:
/join #swingingheaven
As long as you spell it right and use the /and the # you'll get straight in.
