About 10 mins ago I got kicked from the chatroom for no real reason. There was a user in the room who's username happened to be in capitals. One of the mods, I'm not sure who, but think it was Jon, threatened to ban him unless the username was changed.
Now, me being who I am, asked why this was the case, as I've seen user's with their usernames being nothing but caps before....... I also pointed out that if CAPS wasn't used in the context of chatting, what was the problem.....
Once I was kicked, I signed back in and was blatantly ignored when asking for a reason etc.............extremely impolite if I may so say.
Now I know that there are user's who frequently break the rules, and thats why the mods are there. However, I cannot see how or why what I said was an infringement of said rules. Checking the rules themselves, I cannot see anything about not having a user name in CAPS, just generally chatting - we all know the etiquette behind that.
I also cannot see anything about posing a simple question being against the rule, and if that question was deemed as breaking them - apparently according to the rules, I'm supposed to get a warning telling me to desist or I'll get kicked - instead I got kicked......
Seems to me that whilst people use the chat room for all manner of purpose's, the choice of who moderates it is a bit extreme, especially if the "powers" they have are abused.................
Rant over, and fully expect to be ripped apart by all and sundry now, but quite frankly cannot be arsed - the whole place is slowly but surely going steadily downhill in my own personal opinion.............
SX CPLE if u have any complaints about the chatroom go here i really dont think the cafe is here for complaints about the room or the ops we look forward to your e mail and yes you will get an answer .
i have always used capitals for my nick name, but was kindly asked, so i changed them.

I could really stick my neck on the line here and dissect every single thing that has been said on this thread, pointing out when I noticed the new "no caps" rule come into force, giving examples of unfair treatment and examining the downhill slide in light of recent events that I'm sure I don't need to go into.
However, I think maybe I'l just PM SXCouple with words of support.
OK folks,
I've sat back and watch this one develop and I guess now is time for me to comment.
I recently suggested to the other chat room ops that we could "possibly" look at the way nicknames have been developing in the room over the passed few weeks. After a discussion we, as a group decided that should a certain type of nick name come into the room, they would politely be asked to change.
Firstly, people using the ^ symbol in front of their nick to promote them to the top of the alphabetical room listing. One day there was two ^ nicks, a ^^^ nick and even a
ick.
Take a quick look at your local yellow pages and see how it looks with *****AAAAA taxis fighting to stay 1st in the book.
Secondly, there has been a recent trend for what can only be called abusive nick names.
Mainly self derogatory, but never the less, not really necessary in the room.
Finally, and the point that initially started this thread, the use of caps in nicknames. As anybody who has bothered to read the rules for the chat room will know, the use of caps in the chatroom will not be tolerated.
When people use mirc, then can start typing somebodies nick name, then press the "tab" key. That will complete the nick name in full and in the case that is used for the nic. SO, if the nickname is in full uppercase, this will be written over and over whenever the nic is used by a mirc user.
I fully understand that this thread was started not by somebody who was kicked for not changing their nickname, but for somebody sticking their nose in where it wasn't wanted and questioning the request. Quite simply the time and effort that the room op's give to try and keep the room running smoothly is truly beyond comprehension. They make decisions to stop people chatting in a certain way, kick them or even ban them. To have somebody then questioning your decision and trying to undermine your authority does become tiring.
If people would care to check the rules then they will have noticed the following.....
However, some things will NOT be tolerated:-
Conduct likely to cause discord to the chat room. Should you engage in baiting room users or sysops in such a way as to cause a nuisance - whether you think that behaviour is fair or unfair is not the debate. Should a SysOp think it is causing discord you will be kicked and banned from the channel.
Also there is the comment
At all times please follow the directions of any Sysop that may be on duty in the room.
And should you ever find yourself in a similar position, then please show that you have actually read the rules, and rather than just ranting off in here, follow the procedure that has been set up.
I was kicked or banned and I disagree with why it happened.
All sysops run logging services of their chats and the main room. Any dispute you have had with them will have been recorded anyway and therefore it is easy to prove or disprove whether a SysOp took appropriate action. Should you wish to register a complaint then please email the complaint to and/or see the relevant section on the Help Page for further information.
Ok that should just about do it.
Enjoy the room

Well said Ian.
On that note I am locking this thread as there is nothing to be gained by inviting further comment. If anyone has a problem with the chatroom then feel free to email them at the address given.
