I know this will get locked - and that maybe the search button is supposed to be my friend - but have we actually been given any reason why the chatroom keeps dis-connecting us. i notice steve redirected everyone to a thread about this - but the link doesn't work, and searching is proving fruitless.
i've tried clearing my cache, refreshing pages, checking firewalls, hopping up and down on one leg with the other trouser leg rolled up, and none of them seem to work.
are the days of proper tech support gone, or have the site owners, in a rush, decided to implement a system they don't fully understand yet?
kbuk
did you try hopping up and down on one leg tho feebee?
We understand the system, just need a better server, we upgraded the software to handle lots more connections with the version of the flash communication server on a new box, either the software wasn't quite right or the box not up to it, so for now its back how it was yesterday and will handle between 200 to 300 concurrent users depending upon how many are using cams, when the capacity is reached the disconnected shows, you can get in if someone leaves but that means waiting and hitting F5 to refresh once in a while.
We need another box, currently this site has 5 but will have 7 within a week and the chatroom connections increased by 250%.
This is the exact position at the moment
The chatroom maxes out at about 250 users, this is because the flash communication server licence cant cope with all the traffic. The good news is we spent a heap of cash on buying a bigger licence that should work upto about 600 users.
The bad news is when it went live on the new server it was actually slower despite the new larger licence.
We have reverted back to the old smaller server and licence until we can resolve the problem. I am afraid the new room has been a victim of its own success, originally when we checked the old room it used to get upto around 100 users in it at a time. Since there is now one log in more people are using this part of the site.
All will be corrected again next week :P
I think the new chatroom is a vast improvement on the previous one - well done. Just a minor issue that would be great if you could incorporate it in future: there's no way of being able to bring up someone's profile in there - I'm doing it manually at the moment in a separate window. if you could either include a link (like we had on the old java version) or even better have a right-click option to load a profile from the listed user name.....
oh im glad i seen this thread so if the rooms are full it will give you a disconnect message ? ok i can make my program/browser look for that and if it says disconnect it will keep refreshing till you enter the chatroom, steve if that will kill your bandwidth let me know as i wont program it
