Jack Hargreaves just amazed me as a kid, I thought the bloke knew just about anything and everything. He had a wonderfull voice for broadcasting and just had my full attention like no one else since.

How could i forget Out of Town, Jack Hargreaves fascinated me. His knowledge of rural country ways, fishing, nature, steam engines, old agricultural thingymajigs, horses,,,,you name it, he knew about in his shed, silver white beard and pipe, old nets and fishing gear hung up behind him and a huge old wooden bench table in front of him, littered with all kinds of oddities from a bygone era.
I even wrote to "Jim`ll fix it" to spend a day fishing with him on some small chalk stream or other but alas, i never heard a thing from Jim ! sad
What a tremendously interesting man. biggrin :D
Cheers Davej for reminding me of a man who had a big influence on me as a boy

Yep, another one here with fond memories of watching Jack Hargreaves on the telly. Lovely man - and so modest and natural before the camera, unlike the many ego-driven posers who present so many programmes these days.
well when very young my hero was Spotty Dog from the wooden tops..yep i can do the walk !!!
When a litle older then it was John Richards and Derek Dougan,

Douglas Bader beat Spotty to it.
Fleagle from the Banana Splits. Or was it Snork....?
The Silver Surfer from marvel comics, wot a cool dude!
Conan the Barbarian, brilliant.
Wonder woman.................................................well you've gotta have some fun yeah!

Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) from Starsky & Hutch
My friend and I used to play Starsky and Hutch and both of us wanted to be Starsky, as he had dark hair and so did both of us. We even used to make the squealing car tyre and gunshot noises.
Dr Whos who fired my imagination:-
Jon Pertwee
Tom Baker
Lee Majors as The Six Million Dollar Man
Lou Ferrigno as The Incredible Hulk
Oh to have had superhuman strength and been able to throw the school bully over a fence, lol!
Oh good thread.... I've been sitting here reading through the posts and feeling all nostalgic lol
I had so many heroes as a child...... let me think......
As a teenager, Clint Eastwood cos he was so cool and soooooooooo sexy........ Love him to this day
Also Jon Bon Jovi - MAJOR teenage crush
But as a young child, Johnnie Morris from Animal Magic, cos he did those cool animal voices; Danger Mouse of course - the greatest cartoon super hero EVER.... and still is, I regularly watch him on Boomerang redface ; and (now this is a strange one) the character Dan Tanner from the series Vegas....... I so wish they would show the repeats on Sky but they never do sad
However, my all time fave childhood hero was my grandad cos he could beat up loads of baddies, he made the best egg butties I have ever had, and he made a shed once out of scrap wood that was still standing long after he died... I sat and watched him make it - I was truly amazed
Most of the Characters in the TV Century 21 comic (showing my age now), anyone remember it ?? I used to look forward to Wednesdays when this would drop through the letter box.
Otherwise, Sean Connery as 007, still the best in my eyes.
Here are my favourites
a) Torchy the Battery Boy
b) The martian out of 'Space Patrol' who was always saying in a gruff voice " I could eat some martian sausages "
c) Richard Greene as Robin Hood.
d) Terence Morgan as Francis Drake
e) Albert Sweitzer for his love and his care of lepers.
Peter Ward Striker for Brighton and Hove Albion smile
