I bought all my own clothes from the age of 11 with my own money that i made from paper rounds and baby sitting, doing peoples ironing. I used to get picked on for not having this designer or that one but i didnt care i knew that i could rest easy knowing exactly where mine came from.
As far as my son is concerned i pay for them but he picks about half of them not sure what age that will change
My daughter is coming up 12 and while I let her choose her own clothes I would still have the last say. AS I have seen some fashions some 11 yesr olds are wearing and I shudder and think I wouldnt let my daughter go around the streets looking like that.
Luckily she herself is a little tomboyish so I dont have the problems of her flauting herself. But some of her friends go out with makeup on and look about 14.
I find it so scary, what is there left for them to explore at the ages of 15-16?
Having a boy clothing is relatively easy, I buy his jeans, which have to be a certain style (courtesy of my baby sisters input) and he started buying for himself when he hit around 13. He likes cheeky ones from hmv, although he has got a few trendy ones as well.
Actually for a lad I think he's a lot more stylish than I was at his age and considering he doesnt get regular pocket money I think it's quite impressive that he does spend his money on clothes when he gets it.
Something I have noticed is that its a lot harder for kids to get a job young these days. My sister worked at the local take away when she was 14 and I had a better ware job at 13, yet no one will employ a child of 15 any more and because of this it is almost impossible to get a paper round.
This reminded me of the time I saw a girl about 8 years old wearing a t-shirt that said 'So many boys, so little time' :shock: I was gobsmacked that her Mum not only let her WEAR something like that but probably bought it for her too! :doh:
My youngest is now 18 and buys all his own clothes. Luckily I've always been in tune with what he wears and he's always liked what I've bought for him.
Next... I live and breathe Next esp. the household dept.! lol
My daughter who's 16 has only in the past 18 months been buying her own clothes and does so with my full blessing! :lol:

I think this is such a shame I had a saturday job at 13 I loved the independance this bought me and I learnt the value of money very quickly. I feel children are missing out big time here.
By the time girls get to 11, I'd say most are more than capable of choosing clothes for themselves...BUT parents need to step in to prevent some of those disasters! I saw a 9 year old with a mini skirt and top with no back at all. She looked like she had hardly anything on (well she didn't really). I was absolutely shocked that anyone had allowed her to go out like this..made me feel quite down really (maybe I'm over-protective...I don't know!).
ive always let my children choose their own clothes, not buy because if i gave them the money they spend it on crap and come back with no clothing lol but when we go clothes shopping i have always let them pick what they want
my daughter and i have "mts" clothes..................
made to share smile
She does tend to buy a lot of accessories herself.
If she lends money from me then there is a 10% interest fee wink
Usually paid back by helping me around the house. {no such thing as a free lunch rotflmao }
