sorry but as a practicioner of the old norse faith (odinism to some) I will have to disagree with that sweeping statement about all religions,as with a lot of 'pagan' beliefs sexuality is something that is respected enjoyed and rejoiced in,and before you start saying it's not a real religion/recognised belief you might want to check out pagans for progress,the pressure group(which I am proud to belong to)to find out just how close we are to being legally recognisedI:
Many apologies for my sweeping statement. I do personaly recognise paganism as a religion. I was merely refering to what are regarded as the major religions which appear to be seriously hung up about sex. I myself have an interest in OSHO which see's sex as very healthy.

The Bible, as with everything else in life is full of contradictions and inconsistencies, we have the old testament and the new testament, the God of the old one is a cruel vindictive God : he destroyed 250,000 Israelites in the wilderness, for turning to Satan and having sexual orgies the God of the new testament is a forgiving one, give another your cloak, be a good samaritan, turn the other cheek, love one another, your sins have been forgiven by the Blood of Jesus Christ.
We are all evil, we are told, but isn't it a fact, that this body is responsible? I.E. it needs sex, warmth, love, food, it lusts, it is greedy, avaricious, never satisfied, envious, murderous, cruel, treacherous, lying, thieving, betraying,
Who is responsible for making us? ourselves? no! so it must be the fault of the !

Oh dear... confused

looks like I managed to upset Silk ..sorry! It was intended as a light hearted interjection into a light hearted thread not as a profound attack on religion - i was hoping to stimulate conversation not to be jumped on!
Suffice to say people are entitled to believe what they want but it is important to be able to look at your own community, be it social (Swinging, Bingo whatever), religious (Catholic, Hindu whatever) or geographic (British, European, Asian whatever) and take a personal view on what it is doing ( and has done historically) right and wrong. The Catholic church does take a very clear stand on promiscuity, divorce etc (hence the creation of the CofE) and it is simply interesting to try and understand the process by which passionate believers in a faith are also able to sustain other (possibly) incompatible interests.
Controversial end note: I love the fact that the Egyptian empire (inc the New Kingdom) lasted over 2500yrs...who today worships their gods? What happened to them? Did they take early retirement? Go on a cruise? Or maybe they were paving the way for the Christian god..kinda like an advance party...hmmm or maybe they weren't real? Nah don't be silly..millions of people believing in something which doesn't exist would just be plain daft.... mmm makes you think tho...

Final final point: We all believe in something or other. We just all ought believe in it enough to be able to step up to the plate and explain our position and engage in a debate. If I'm wrong then help to educate me.
Right I'm going to officially retire my 'sweeping statement' broom now...go on! Into the garage with ya!
