Christmas decorations

When is the right time to get your decorations up?
What about commercial places like shops and businesses?
For me it's the Advent calendar up for the 1st December (fairly obviously). And the rest go up on middle weekend between son's birthday on the 25th November and Christmas itself, so the 11th this year.
I quite like seeing the lights up in windows on the way home but I think even early ones should be no earlier than 1st December.
In shops - same thing, if it isn't December Christmas decorations aren't needed.
But, hey, that's just me.
What do you feel about it?

The advent calenders will be up in the morning... if I get off here for a while and get them ready!!! I have homemade ones that I need to tie the sweeties onto..
The rest of decorations shall go up the weekend before Christmas, except for the main tree - which shall be real and will go up on 23rd December.

Normaly (but not this year) I put the tree and deccies up in the first days of nov and the Xmas lights up 1st dec. I love Xmas

OK, I thought I was bad! I'm moaning because it's the 1st Dec tomorrow and my tree won't be up because we were away last weekend.
I simply can't put my tree up in an evening - there isn't enough time. It takes a whole afternoon! Sunday i'll do it - if i'm not hungover from the Bristol social! Actually, i'll do it if I am. I'm buggered if i'm not putting my tree up till the 11th December!!!!

I used to put them up round about now usually when Dek was away, this year probably will go up in a couple of weeks :sad:

I love a real (potted) tree, but under a certain size (too big for my house) they look a bit thin and skinny. So I have 3 artificial ones. I only use 2 in any year, this year the 2 smaller ones.
I don't do themed colours - just chuck loads of bead-strings, varied baubles and some tinsel and then tweak it until it looks ok. I don't have a stylish flare - so I go for cheerfully bright and colourful.
The perfect tree would be real, 20 feet tall, mounted in the curve of a sweeping oak staircase, lit by the glowing flames of a huge log fire in one of theose baronial stone firplaces. Decorated with a mixture of natural decs, tasteful baubles and real, tiny candles. A heap of beautifully wrapped presents with ribbons and such like.
Huge squishy armchairs nearby, with small tables bearing glasses of Baileys, plates of very expensive seasonal chocs and hot mince pies.

Mrs put the tree up yesterday and the Decs today. Bit early for us and I dont know what possessed her but I am not complaining.

its my birthday next week so the tree and decs wont be going up till the weekend after so at least i have a chance to have my cards up a couple of days before they get swamped with christmas cards.
they will come down again the second weekend in the new year, along with a spring clean

Oh yes, they all have to be down by or on the 6th Jan. And if we will be away then - they come down earlier. That's a very strict rule for us.

I am allowed to carry the boxes up the ladder to the loft...........mind you, after I dropped one last year and the box now tinkles when slightly shaken, I am unsure if that job has been taken off my to do list :angel:

At least several of the large supermarkets / DIY shops have a buy 2 get 1 free on decorations, so you can go and get her some that are not broken!! Get the kids to carry them to the car, just in case you slip!!! lol

You lot are sooooooo bloody cruel to me.
Anyway, we have bought new decorations this evening............and I wasn't allowed to carry them redface

Just got me thinking.........you know them lucky horseshoes you get when you get married. Well ours went on the wall after our wedding...........and Alex caught me glueing the fecker back together again after I knocked it off. Well........she went bloody ballistic.......you could have sworn it was the crown jewels. So after a ten minute bollocking she notices my handy work and says:
"You have done a really good job there. You can't see the break"
"Thank you" I say "And you can't see the other breaks I repaired when I have knocked it off the wall on 3 other occasions". Now did she thank me for the care and attention I put into glueing it back together in the past?
Did she feck................she tore me a new arsehole for breaking it three times previously without her noticing.
I bloody wish people would buy us stuff made out of bouncible plastic rather than breakable ceramics

If she didn't know Dave what the f*ck wa the point in telling her about the previous! I know there's such a thing as honesty between partners but you can stretch a point. Gotta hand it to you though Dave, alex sounds like a feisty one and they're far more fun...most times biggrin

As for Chrimbo decs. If it was up to me we wouldn't have them. That's not because I'm anti Christmas I just don't really like them. I would however like to turn the whole of Christmas into a national non cultural religious holiday instead of what it pretends to be,

The thing is Lost, I was caught redhanded with two bits of horseshoe in my hand and a superglue bottle between my lips (not going to mention what a stupid idea this was after the bottle stuck to my bottom lip) trying to glue these things together. When she went into rant mode it was kind of a defence to say that she hadn't noticed the three other breaks........but unfortunately this just sent her off on another rant dunno

first weekend of december .....
and we have always had a green tree (artifical) oh but now we have cream one this year so im really not gettin involved on making the tree look the part instead i will just moan how it doesn't look the part !
