if your avatar knocked on a door..............
u scare the life out of anyone who answered!!!!!!!!!!
biggrin :D :D :D :D
nice to see it back btw....... :D

I could have him in the window to scare off any burgulars.
I would probably bang on the door/peep through the letterbox and maybe ring the local police to see if any cars were in the area who could maybe pop by and have a look (if there were no obvious signs of fire). Or maybe check with neighbours in case they had a key/phone number of occupiers.
I would be a bit loathe to ring 999 if there was nothing obvious, but as someone has said, fire alarms rarely malfunction so I would prefer it to be investigated..after all if it was my house I would want someone to 'interfere'.

Errm I would probably ring the Police but on their non-emergency number not 999. Here there is a 0845 number that covers a 20 mile patch.
I called them a few days ago because the alarms were going off in a shop (burglar ones) I went to look, no sign of break in so called the non-emergency line.
I called 999 when they went off in the shop below me, then again, the "signs of a break in" were a bit obvious as i could see them trying to kick the door in!
I was driving down my street (passing through not going home) and i could hear alarms, thought nothing of it, about 20 minutes later i get home, alarms still going, they're mine!
My smoke alarms are audiable for at least 5/6 doors either side, yet no-one came to investigate!
redface Turns out that I had set the tumble drier on a timer but forgot to put the hose out the window!! surprisedops:   no harm done, but if I had have left my oven/iron/toaster on then my home would be destroyed before anyone bothered to do anythin!

biggrin I was waiting for someone to say that lol
I did end up calling the fire brigade - via local fire station rather than 999 (but how many of us have that number to hand? dunno) and they did come out - because 'fire alarms dont usually malfunction' and I was right to call them, especially as we couldnt see in the house, no signs of a fire, but it could have been a slow smoulder etc so I couldnt just leave it :dunno:
Fire men (who were very nice I admit :twistedsmile assessed things, were getting ready to 'go in' when luckily the householder came back - and far from being grateful , she went mental at them for busting her back gate,. went mental at me - and i've since found out from my boss that she's also reported me to my employer for wasting fire brigade time  (I have no case to answer, I was 100% correct as far as they're concerned) and was generally a thoroughly ungrateful bitch.
Would i think twice next time? probably not, but I sincerely hope I dont work that area again mad
but can we really justify calling out the emergency services just in case? :dunno: I'm undecided on this one - even though i've done it loon but I'd certainly like to think someone would do the same for me, and in the big scheme of things, does it really matter if they break a gate/ door/ window etc to check?
I think the emergency services would rather come out to a "in good faith false alarm call " than end up with a tragedy
they have to put up with so many hoaxes and arson incidents these days

No not really, I would imagine most people would have the (common)sense to investigate first, but being in a job that makes me "quite aware" to things in the first place, plus using the rationale I did (if it was my house etc) I would want to escalate the situation to someone with more knowledge than me (in this case a possible patrol car in the area)
BUT people without that access can dial 999 and explain that it's not an emergency but can someone come around asap. Emergency operators are quite used to this.
I live my life with the motto " treat others as you wish to be treated" and it hasn't failed me (yet!)
