Looks like another loss for the world of motorsport sad
just read about this on another forum....hje had his 5 year old son with him too sad
very sad news indeed.
just got in and Jude told me about it, am absolutely gobsmacked to say the least. he was a living legend in the rallying scene and one of the most raw telented drivers the sport has seen in decades.
Feel very very sorry for his Wife Alison and their daughter at this moment, really hope Alistair or Jimmy wasn't in the copter with them as well sad
Makes you realise just how fragile life is - enjoy every moment while you can.
so sad to hear this news sad was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times an the thing that came across everytime was this man is a gentleman!! he will be sadly missed by motor sport fans around the world an our thoughts are with his family on this very sad day for them

Every death is a sad loss. Not just a sad loss to to motorsport. What about, for example, his family..?
I will be interested to see how his passing will be marked by folks on SH as he is a motor sports personality rather than say, a standard TV celebrity.
Just waiting for the gallows humour to begin. Should be hilarious. sad

Of course every death is a sad loss and having shared a beer or two with the man and his wife many moons ago I feel for his family and friends and also for the passenger's family. I don't think it makes any difference what circles he moved in... it's still tragic.
I'm sure people will comment if they feel the urge or not if they don't... I don't suppose it really matters now he's gone. :(
It's a terrible shame, Great driver, came accross as a lovely man and sure he will be greatly missed.
But, he has left a legacy that won't be forgotten for many a year. Just shocking and terrible for the family sad
How very sad for everyone involved sad .

Hang on where did you come from?
Yes very sad i used to like playing his video game too confused
Learned of this whilst working at Donington this weekend. Tragic News indeed.
Not entirely sure that 'stardom' sat easily on his shoulders, as he had a reputation of being a bit 'gruff' with people from time to time. Having said that, on the couple of times I'd met him he was quite personable.
Definitely a sh*t or bust driver though, which is the attribute which endeared him to a legion of fans far beyond these shores. Also, after his 'wilderness' years, with there being no WRC drives available, I feel he had become comfortable with the new challenges of Rally Raids and the like - not just sitting back on his past glory.
Tragic for both families concerned.
RIP
He was a great ambassador for the rallying and motor sport world and he will be sorely missed by anyone who knows anything about motor sport or his career. I'm sure that his death comes as a huge shock, I know it did to me when I heard about it last night.
My heart goes out to all those left to cope after this tragic event. sad

I had the pleasure of meeting him at Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of years ago and he was lovely. I loved watching him race and my heart goes out to all the families who have been devestated by this tragedy sad

I was trading in the paddock for two days and didn't even get to see one race!lol Though I managed to keep nipping off to have a look around the crs as they were being prepared.
At last years event I was on the infield so at least got to see the cars run through Craner's.
