The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town used make me howl with laughter when I was a kid and I still love Porridge and Ar-Ar-Arkwirght lol

I was just about to post something about this so pleased to see that somebody else thought of it first.
There are lots of clips that could be shown and they are all hilarious. As I type the one being shown is in the hardware store. "Forkandles please" and the little Ronnie plonks four candles on the counter. No, "Forkandles, 'andles for forks".
You know what's coming but it's still hilarious.
But I remember what many won't , Ronnie Barker was a radio star and I remember him in the "Navy Lark". Jon Pertwee and Leslie Phillips are memorable but does anybody else remember Ronnnie Barker saying, nasally, "Intelligence 'ere?"
He was a star. Among the giants of comedy. Probably even greater than the other giants - Cooper, Hanccock and others.

Truly a sad day for British comedy, although lets not forget the man could act as well.
A true star and a guy who's sketches remain as fresh today as the day they were first performed.

an innovative and creative man
worked with many others inc david jason ,richard beckinsale etc
perfectionist who got audiances of up to 20+ million in the late 70s and early 80s
will be sorely missed and un likely to be repeated talent like that is a rare comodity

what a great comedian and actor ronnie barker was i still love watching porridge and open all hours they are such class programmes they have stood the test of time .my favourite comedy sketch has to be the fork handles sketch in the hardware shop its just brillient lol

and of course as............... Arkwright with Gladys Emmanuelle and the fantastic David Jason

comedy genius...... Norman Stanley Fletcher made me laugh till I cried...... I can just see Ronnie and Richard Beckinsale up there catching up on old times..... a very sad day :upset:

Richard Beckinsale died at 33 from a heart attack sad loss at least weve had years of Ronnie. One of my favorite jokes of his:
A police station has had all its toilets robbed, a ploice spokesman said they had nothing to go on! LOL

I know a little about prisons-and Ronnie had it spot -on.
I know a little about the 'working man'-and Ronnie had it spot on.
I know a little about the tension between classes-and Ronnie had it spot -on.
I would like to think I could string a few words together for effect-comic or otherwise-but I am an amateur compared to Ronnie; he had it spot- on
A master of observational comedy; I am a saddder man today for the news of his leaving us...

Sorry to see him go....very funny man.
I was lucky enough to meet him when he worked in his Antique shop in Chipping Norton in the Cotwolds. Yes he actually worked behind the counter, apparently he liked being able to blend into the back ground after years of TV.

Norman Stanley Fletcher is one of the all-time classic comedy characters - I never get tired of watching the repeats of Porridge.

Does anyone remember Ronnie played a shortsighted removals man in a comedy set in the 1930's called Clarence. This is a personal favourite of mine that was full of laugh out loud moments. However. perhaps because the humour main came from the character's near-sighteness it never caught on and has rarely been repeated since its first run in the late 1980's.
This is a shame because the show is hilarious and is also the last work Ronnie Barker did before he decided to retire.

Ronnie Barker was The very very best. No comedy actor in the world is worthy of him.
The only people who come close are David Jason and John Cleese (as Basil).
Four Candles says it all!!!!!
A sad day! We are both really sad to hear this news. Ronnie's work will live on forever!!!!
