If they reduce any further there wont be any full stop. I may be looking in rose tinted past times glasses but when we first arrived here it seems there were nearly always 3-4 munchs on the board and a lot of socials.
As everyone can see from our signature we are hosting a Munch along with Nimbus. I would not dream of charging for it thats not what this was about when we came to the site. Munchs were something you give to the community for free for whatever reason from my point of view on this occasion it is because we see very little life in the South west swinging community social wise.
For certain Mrs Tweeky and I wouldn't go to paid for events where is a clothes off affair and suspect I would only be prepared to pay a bear minimum like £2 for social. From organizing the below I can tell that anything more than that then they will start to rake it in.

100% agree with you both, and although I can see the reasoning behind letting commercial events be advertised on here, I really do hope that the rules for Munches are not changed and that organisers cannot use them to make a profit, otherwise, I do feel that the ethos behind munches will vanish completely.
As for allowing commercial these events to be advertised on here, it is the same as anything else, it has to be tried to see if it works, and that is what St3v3 and Admin are doing at the moment. In the past, events which have been perceived (rightly or wrongly) to be making a profit, have been removed. However, if you remember, not that long ago, adverts placed by anyone who owned or worked in a Swingers Club was also removed, but this has now been relaxed and as long as owners or other regulars do not spam the site, they adverts are being allowed and it seems to be working really well.
From a personal perspective, I am still a bit unsure about it myself, but good on St3v3 and Admin for giving it a go. If it works, we may see more, if it doesn't then things will probably just return to how they were, but I do want to echo what Dawnie says, people will vote with their feet, and if they feel they are being taken advantage of, or over charged, they just will not attend.
Scenario:
Vanilla person looks at the forum, sees that members of the site are allowed to run events at a profit and thinks 'I might become a swinger and make some money'

I admit I'm worried by that too but unless they are 'active' members and by that I mean posting on the forum, using chat, placing ads or going to other events, then don't go to their events.
Still dont think it matters much. Still think choice is good as long as the scenario is made clear.

I think it might be good to leave well alone and leave things as they are, after all we have managed thus far. I know people have abused the AUP from time to time, but most people aren't daft and can work these things out for themselves.
As I see it, if someone holds a social or a munch, then to charge whatever it costs the organiser is fine, but to actively advertise something which is obviously a way to make money is in my view outside the ethos of this site. Aren't socials and munches opportunities for people to get together and meet up with those from this lifestyle? I thought they were in essence. Perhaps I have the wrong end of the stick.
And yes, we all have choice, but it's nice to go to social events, that people have spent a lot of time organising for the good of the members, and to spoil the whole thing by turning it into a money making venture is in my view rather a shame.
Aside from the issue of allowing events to be advertised where the purpose if for members to make a profit out of other members, there's one thing that really feels wrong to me. Why is it acceptable to charge an entry fee that varies according to gender?
I find this a fairly annoying trend in swinging clubs but to see it filter through into events organised by "the community" (that appear to be outside of the club arena) is something new and unwelcome in my view
to me swinging has always been a cottage industry, discreet and small scale. it took a couple with a strong open sex life to inspire events. the honesty of it was there in front of you and the choice was yours.
it seems that quality has been lost in the competitiveness of the new 'package tour' approach.
so i would say that this site and what it advertises and the members, are available to join your adventure, not to direct it.
b4 mrs "c" became ill last year we used to run the derby socials for a few years and found best way to avoid making a profit from the event was to count how many guests were on the list multiply it by per person deduct the costs (hire of room, disco, nibbles, balloons, cash prize to topless lady pool players etc)and purchased raffle prizes with the even paid ourselves to attend, lol.

Agreed
Disagree as in the past we have always been told we cannot make a profit, if rules are being bent then we should as paying members have been told about it instead of just coming across it on the forum and then being told afterwards.
We are expected to act like adults so why are we not being treated like them.

.... Sorry to highlight this bit but....I will refere you to the AUP, where it clearly states...
" Swinging Heaven have the right to change the AUP at anytime without prior notice to its members, Ops or Mods.
Swinging Heaven have the right to withdraw membership without notice or explanation.
Swinging Heaven's decision on any matter set out in this AUP shall be final ".
So when you join this site those are the rules and as a commercial business whether we like it or not, SH can change anything they like at any time.
Then once again people have the same choice....stay or leave.

That doesn't make it feel right though, The sites ethos of being run by swingers for swingers obviously was compromised when us public became customers/punters rather than members when swinging Heaven became a business. There is something unwholesome about this turn of events.
Sometimes this "more choice" thing is just an excuse to put in place things that are wanted by the management not the end user. a way of changing direction for different purposes.
OK people may say that members will vote with their feet but thats also slightly misleading in the fact that this place still has a large community spirit, even though in my opinion/experience its diminishing, and while thats the case members will still accumulate to be with like minded people mates and the suchlike, Captive customer base if you like. Its quite amazing what people will put up with in the hope that things wont get any worse.
Oh I'm thinking of holding a swinging social soon it'll be free for playing females and couples and £40/person for a select group of single men bring your own booze no sleep overs condoms, lube and wipes supplied and of course nibbles laid on too. Two fit sexy fem friends have agreed to they want as much sex as they can get that night so get your names down. Places limited

The above is of course only an example of what could possibly be. Maybe a bit in your face but I cant see it being far removed from fact

Agree with that Losty.
Yes it has changed from the old days, but then it was not run to make any sort of profit then.
Now of course that is the nature of the beast I am afraid.
As far as I am concerned I am still a non paying member, where the new owners could have easily stopped that and made us all pay so for that I am grateful.
There have been many things I am unhappy about and to be honest I still am, but whether I like it or not, they make the rules and I have to abide by them, or leave.
The site has certainly not been the same over the last six months as it once was, maybe it is just me?
The charging of advertising is just another aspect of a company wanting to make some extra money....it is called good business sense.
Ive took time n read with interest all the points made on here... Evevrybody seems to be sayin the same thing really just different ways of putting it and I agree with 99% of it. But one thing about charging for socials at a venue is..
How do you determine your entry price esp if half the 'guestlist' doesn't turn up????..
You average out an amount of attendees and work out a rough cost.. 'Just to cover outgoings'...
You add names as people ask to be included,
You cater for amount confirmed,
Then only a proportion of 'confirmed' show up and you could end up in a mess... OR
More attend than you expected which then puts you in profit which you didn't plan to do but someone does the sums and immediately believes that was your intention and they must refere to you in a 'hint and shame' forum post lol
What do you do in these cases?? give everyone a £1/50p back on leaving the event? give it to charity? The profit could be £15 or £100. I guess you wouldn't know until it was over when all attendees have turned up.. left.. and all the outgoings have been settled.
I have been DJ/entertainer at a couple of SH socials. One I was Told what I would be paid and accepted it as part of the budget.. another the room hire was barely covered and I had to accept not even my petrol to get there was.. Its swings(pardon the pun) n roundabouts.. Tho I will state that in that case the organiser told everyone n they had a voluntary whip round for me which touched me deeply.
So I agree with charging the small amounts but not with home or extortionate amounts but thats when you have ya choice I guess.

Yes it is a problem, when you have assessed the cost per person based on how many say they are attending, but with my socials, because there is a meal involved, everyone pre-pays the hotel that are providing the meal, therefore you know people are not only serious about coming along, and if they dont turn up for whatever reason, their meals were paid for. It works well in this scenario, not so sure if it would for the more basic 'nibbles' do's.
And Kenty, yes SH do say they have the right to change the AUP without notice, but if they do that, then surely they should make some sort of indication on the site, which as yet they haven't as far as I can see. So surely until they do, the AUP as it is at the moment still stands.
It would be nice to be kept in the loop.
Wouldn't take much to bang a note on the forum.
When cases crop up which pose new 'problems' or require new 'interpretations' of the AUP, then they are discussed.
I can confirm that the event you are discussing is being looked at and discussed and Admin are considering what changes, if any, need to be made to social guidelines or the AUP.
I am sure that once those discussions have been finalised, a note will be placed in the relevant forum.
For the moment, it was requested that potential attendees be made aware that it was a commercial event and the organiser has done this. Again, it may well be that further steps are taken to clarify the situation in more detail.
I don't think it is a matter of people being kept out of the loop deliberately; it is more that Admin are having to react all the time to new situations whilst still maintaining the functioning of the site.
As I said, I'm fairly sure that as and when any changes are made then people will be informed.

I agree it would be a good idea that whenever there is a change in the AUP, it is posted in a thread in the forum, not for comment, but just for info.
The site owners are always looking to find ways to improve the site for the members - you. They are willing to give something a try to see if it works and allow you the opportunity to make the choice yourselves, rather than the choice being made for you. In this case they are looking to give you the choice as to whether you would like to choose between a minimum cost social (where there is a cost, but only enough to cover expenses and not make a profit) or a full-blown profit making social. An idea would be to have a new forum purely for the socials which are obviously profitmaking to keep them separate from the current style of socials/munches that are posted. There are probably still some tweeking to do to get it right for you, therefore at this moment in time, no need to change the rules. Once the right format has been discussed and worked on, then we have a model to move forward with.
For instance, if someone advertises a social at his or her home and charges an entrance fee which will obviously make a profit, then you personally will decide whether that cost is justified to you, we can't say if it is justified on your behalf. You might think it is good value for money, others will think it's a rip off. Each member will have their own opinion and whatever it is, it's right for you and you vote with your feet (or wallet!!). If no-one goes to these profitmaking functions, then members will stop posting them and we revert to what we have now. If they do go to them and are happy going to them, then they will continue and will offer to those members who attend them, another option that we don't have now.
As for charging them to post them, I'm sure the site owners will look at that, but my feelings are that it would be impractical to change the general membership fee for thousands, based on on a very low return from these types of posts, just to give something back to the membership as a whole. If they were charged for posting them, they are likely to increase the charge to the members attending to recover that cost.
I've just noticed that, whilst typing this, Nola has posted and I agree with what she has posted passionkiss

Totaly agree that when new cases crop up they should be discussed but shouldnt it have been discussed and then something put on the forum to say that the rules are being bent to see if it works or not, rather than letting it be posted and then discuss it afterwards.
I think if this had been the case then it wouldnt have caused such a stir, I'm sure that the Mods and Admin must have had plenty of discussions with members in the past regarding making a profit when organisisng a social, (I know I have) which is why I objected.
A little forthought and consideration to the paying and non paying members would have been a much better way to have dealt with this situation.

You're probably right, Gillian, but hopefully we can take on board these comments and move forward in a more positive way for the benefit of the members.

The site rules are clear on this:-
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/assets/Munch_and_Social_Guidelines.pdf
Munch Rules – IT SHOULD BE A NON PROFIT AND NON COMMERCIAL EVENT
Social Rules - IT SHOULD BE A NON PROFIT AND NON COMMERCIAL EVENT

http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/terminology/munch.html
“We have a strict rule that anyone organising a Munch on here is doing so solely for current and active Swinging Heaven members, and is not promoting, colluding or otherwise involving any other website, club or group. Only people from Swinging Heaven who have been specifically invited are allowed to attend the Munches that are advertised on here.”
Is there a cost involved?
“We all love a freebie, but you may incur costs for buffets, DJs, hire of the room, door/bar staff, etc. We do not allow any functions which are run to make a profit. However, we don't expect you to be out of pocket either! Don't just think of a number and say you'll keep the balance or give it to a charity. Work out costs per head. In the past it's been OK to 'pass a hat round' as the only source of income for the night, to put towards the cost of bar/door staff or the DJ. OK, but don't do it several times during the night for each category. Once and once only.”

So, anything that is put in Events or the Lets Meet forum that describes itself as a ‘Social’ or a ‘Munch’ must abide by the above site rules. If the fixed cost is known before hand then the listing should clearly state a ‘fixed fee’ e.g. a Camping Social where the pitch fee is known and the catering costs (if supplied) are budgeted would be fine. Members can then decide if they wish to part with the fee and attend or not.
Where Clubs use the Events or Forum to advise members of up-coming ‘commercial’ gatherings, then these posting should clearly state the entrance fee charged by the club on the night along with any ‘restrictions’ on entry that may apply. These should remain ‘free’ as advice for SH members – if we go down the road of charging for these then quite rightly the clubs will want to highlight these ads with their company logo’s etc. Again members can make their own decisions on attending or not…
Maybe we need a new category of site membership to identify ‘commercial’ memberships and thus only those accounts would be allowed to post ‘commercial’ events if a standard site member posted an event that is clearly designed to ‘make profit’ then these could be deleted by the forum mods…. If there is a question over the ‘reasonableness’ of the proposed charge then the mods can discuss that with the posting member as to why this is – it maybe that they are ‘day renting’ a flat or house to host that particular event…

Exactly what i suggested a commercial membership for those using the site as a business or to make a profit... the rest of us have public membership.
Either that or charge a fee for someone running a purely for profit social/event.
A small point of clarification:
For the purposes of this discussion there's a difference between a "commercial" venture/event, and a "profiteering" one.
I believe what is being trialled is a way to allow business' to promote their events on the site, for the potential benefit of the membership as a whole. I also believe there are no plans to change the non-profit status of munches or socials.
Also, as I mentioned above, if SH charges for these promotions, the price will just get added to the charge made to members who attend.
If I'm wrong then I'm sure St3v3 will be along to correct me. ;-)

So would that mean the event in LMU is a legitimate bonafida registered business or am I getting this all wrong that this is a couple of people making a quick buck from people out of arranging a "houseparty"?

if its a business then it shouldn't be posted by a member of the site there should be a clear definition, if sh charges and the charge is then passed on to those who attend, thats their choice for going. we chose to go to socials due to their low cost and the fact they not specifically doing them to make a profit. so if someone chooses to pay through the nose to go to someones house, thats their choice. but is sh can benifit from charging these "businesses" and a small drop in membership can be afforded by this, or more improvements to site technology and reliability can come from it then we'll all benefit.
i'm not sure how you define your difference between a commercial venture and a profiteering one, but my veiw would be that if after all outgoings someone made £50 for organising an event, then thats very comercial. if someone blatently discriminates against a specific sex and makes £250-400 profit then thats profiteering. now i know clubs do this and they will say its to limit numbers, but in this case if the organiser doesn't send the details to people, then the number of people (singles guys) will automatically be restricted... it makes sence in my head, hope you get the picture lol

I must have missed it, which event are we on about??
FIO: the event was moved to the Clubs section early yesterday. It probably isn't the right one - we know and accept that. Until another choice is open to us this is the best we can do at the moment. As St3v3 said - its a trial only.
Members who are interested in any event listed on SH should ask the organiser about business registration/fire safety certificate/event details etc. If you don't receive enough information that's satisfactory to you - don't take it further.
Whilst the basic principle of advertising businesses on the site doesn't really present a problem as such, the implementation of the businesses out there in swingerland will create something else. I just wonder what people expect from it all.
Now this is interested as I have an empty property that I can hold weekly parties at or even hire the property out to those who want to host their own parties. I can post a thread stating weekly private party and charge people to attend. This would pay my loan on the property, rates and maintenance those who I decide attend would be happy as they have a private venue for parties.
It would be non profit making as I would only charge enough to cover my overheads. So who wants to party?
