My computer supplier is so disorganised it is unbeleivable, every time he promises to phone me to help with a problem, he never does, when I collect the computer from his shop and ask him if everything is in the box and he says yes, it never is, when I borrow software and bring it home and try to install it, I can't because there is no 25 digit key no. and when I phone to ask for it he can't find it.
When it is necessary to phone me he can never find my number and I have to give it to him for the umteenth time, They don't open the shop till 1100 Hrs each day, so I can't phone or call till half the day has gone, they frequently close the shop to go to the Mosque and take holidays in Mecca, It seems to me that their customers come last in their life and a burden to them instead of being the most important.
I second the that you should find a new shop.
Granted you may 'know' this person but he just isn't worth the time to do business with. You will find that a lot of computer stores are like that. Quite simply because they are often forgetful of human contact. Computer repairs, programming and sales are often found lacking in the customer service department. It is often quite hard to speak and be friendly to somebody if your best friend is a computer.
Just my opinion but I stick by it.

isn't "borrowing" software illegal? wink

By definition, it's not exactly a people-orientated sector is it? lol

I'm sure he gives it back and removes the program when he's finished.  rolleyes
I'll get me coat.
Finding a new shop may not be the answer. I'm still waiting for my laptop. In the words of the credible Hulk...
Aaaaaargh!
Doesnt anyone go a computer fair or something along those lines....i only buy at croydon computer fair,WELL CHEAP,nuff said lol
hey,
I totally understand the problem you face. I work in IT and have done for 10 years and know what you are going through, it's the same in business too...
A few years ago, i set up in business and provided services specifically for the home user. I was available 'out of working hours' and built up a nice client base. Although i didn't make enough money as a totally sustainable income, i did get tremendous satisfaction that i could help these people, in their homes at a decent price.
There was then, as i'm sure there is now still a niche market for this, people can't afford to take time off work to get their pooters fixed, upgraded ete, if you can offer this service in the comfort of their own homes, you'll make a little bit of money and you'll also help people like this out.
Any techies out there who want to start a business in their free time should research it a bit more... it won't make you a millionaire, but if you enjoy working with PC's etc... you'll be providing an invaluable service to those that need it!!!
Jeez, I really should get back into it, i'm a redundant IT Manager, i have no job, i have a skill, OK, Anyone in Kent need something done??? LOL
biggrin

I agree with that. I lady I used to work with had a problem with her machine. I won't bore you with the details. However, the guy she had come out to fix it charged her 75 pounds and the machine was no better than when he first arrived!
I couldn't believe the amount she paid.
that really is expensive..... £75 and not fixed... man, how could he get away with that!!!
I used to charge people for my time... nothing more.... an hourly rate, no call out charge, not extortionate, any pooter problem that couldn't be sorted within an hour i'd say straight away and give them the option of me taking it away to fix....
Any parts that were needed were paid for by the customer, at trade price, no mark up by me...
I think that was why i was reasonably successful and built up a good reputation. I'd take along my trade book so that these guys could see what price specific parts were. Go along to any high street PC dealer/vendor and you'll be amazed at the mark up on components
Anyway, just to let the Mods know, i'm not touting for business as i'm not involved in that anymore confused

Yep I almost fainted when she told me. The sad thing was he was wanting to try and charge her AGAIN to come back and work on it some more!
Unfortunately she didn't know much about computers and so got taken advantage of. I didn't know until after the fact otherwise i'd have "tried" sorting it out myself for free.
While we're on the subject of computers i've just been building one with some bits i had left lying around. Unfortunately when trying to install windows it will reset itself for no apparant reason mad
