Try updating that and see what happens.

If they are that good then why are most of us using PCs and NOT Macs. Please explain. I thought Macs were used mainly for Newspaper media stuff / Publishing and to an extent somewhat restrictive for the home user.
I remember someone saying many years ago that that eight track recording and Beta-max was the DBs but where are both of those systems now ?
Jude

Well this is the stuff urban myth really
some say that microsoft made their operating system easy to copy so that lots of people would use it.. but made their other programmes (typing etc).. really difficult! (cunning)
You probally have the answer with what you said..... graphics... yes the mac is fantastic for CAD etc.... do you remember the Amiga.. that was THE machine if you wanted to do audio sampling!!!
the PC is an allrounder.....
expandable in any direction....
jack of all trades .. so to speak
oh... and you said about some tape formats... not sure if they were or not.. wasnt around then
but
even now there are oooo 4 different varieties of DVD
and dont get me started on video codecs.....
100s!!

The answers are kinda actually in your question, but can largely be put down to bad marketing. In the early days, Macs stomped all over equivalent Windoze based machine for graphics applications (CAD, typesetting etc), but were also good at the 'home user' type stuff. In the old P1 Intel days, the equivalent Motorola chipset (68040) was definitely the better. Unfortunately, Apple targetted the Mac at the graphics market, not the home user, so the home user came to the opinion, as you say, that Macs are for heavy graphics users. As a result of that, the software that makes a computer useful wasn't developed to the same extent on the Mac as on the PC, thereby making even fewer home users want them... which led to less software titles, which led to... and so on. (plus the fact that Macs certainly used to be slightly more expensive than the equivalent PC). Apple are trying to address many of these issues with their more recent h/w offerings.
Pretty much the same thing for Betamax too - Betamax was a much better technology than VHS, but bad marketing resulted in fewer sales. Fewer sales resulted in fewer films being released on that format, which led to fewer sales, which led to...
Don't know about 8-tracks though.
