Hi people, was just wanting to ask if any of you ladies out there had tried the contraceptive impant? It's been 8 weeks now since baby was born and getting a bit sick of using condoms all the time. I've been looking at all the options available and due to my crap memory, the mini pill is out the question, the combined pill can't be used whilst breast feeding, and I really don't like the idea of depo as I do want more kids in the future. I've narrowed my options down to the implant or IUS(hormone releasing coil type thingy). The implant appeals to me more but just wondered if anyone has any bad experiences of it?
TIA

You have me a bit worried here, you should still be able to have kids in teh future using teh depo injection... or is there something my doctor isnt telling me???

You can still have kids after depo, but the amount of time for fertility to return veries greatly from person to person. My best friend is desperate to have a baby and came off depo in June last year. Her period still hasn't returned and when she went to the docs they said that it is normal for it to take a yr for fertility to resume. Some people take longer, some less. It's going to be a few years before I have any more kids, but the advantage ofboth methods I've narrowed it down to is that fertility returns as soon as you finish them.
my sister had the implant and had no probs but I suspect as with all forms of contrception its down to the individual and how the body reacts to it. biggrin
Yep.. but going back to uni next year so am not planning another for about 5yrs. Also they can be taken out before the 5 yrs is up. The IUS is a 3 yr one so if I went for that I would probably have to have another one fitted to 'last' me until I was ready to start trying again.

Hi the hormone releasing coil last for five years and is not as painful to have removed as the implant hope this helps
Mrs Bunny xx
yes i have that same coil, (well not yours mrs bunny ) no periods, no side effects, and lasts 5 years.
Friends i know have had the implants and have found on removal periods have taken anywhere between 2 months to well still waiting and been 18mths.
Thought it was advisable to wait one year after comming off contraception of this kind before conciving anyhow?

I had the "coil" fitted in April, went through agony, everything settled down down now (I hope). Go for what suits you best.

I had the coil fitted in Dec and had it removed on Wednesday I'm off to the docs in a bit though as I'm haemorraging from it
The Mirena hurts a bit being fitted but not when it's removed, and for those it works for it's brilliant.
