Fargo / midnight express / the doors
I'll second the votes for The Matrix, Fight Club, Bladerunner (Directors cut only please) and Pulp Fiction.
I'll add Dark Star, and Oceans Twelve (not as good as Eleven, but not bad!)
Amores Perros, a brilliantly crafted movie, three good stories intertwining.
And, I have to say, sooo cool and sooo funny, "Dead men don't wear plaid"!

Let me add one more into the melting pot that I didn't notice in anyone's list yet - The Draughtsman's Contract.
Oh and for gothic-cool, would Bram Stoker's Dracula and Interview With A Vampire, figure, I wonder?.
bladerunner still tops my list. Like others have said, it depends on how you define cool. A novel, stylistic approach has something to do with it for me. Also, good sci-fi carries an edge for me.

I just cant remember the name of the movie, it had Sean Penn in it, his father was a villain who had him shot up near the end and Sean Penn gave evidence against him . Madonna did the soundtrack. Thought that was quite good if anyone knows the name of it please let me know.
Pulp Fiction, Samuel l Jackson and John Travolta they dont come any cooler than those characters.
