Hi all
I am assuming that some of you get away from your keyboards once in a while wink And from what I have seen here you all seem to be a fun, diverse and adventurous group. Bearing this in mind, and the fact that I have just booked a weekend in Barcelona. Do any of you have any good suggestions of things to do and see in Barca.
I love Art/History/Culture, shopping and staying out late eating good food and partying ! Im staying right on Las Ramblas if that helps.
Any tips, ideas, experiences would be welcomed.
Thanks
James

It's been a while since I was there, but the traffic police were great entertainment, standing in the middle of the road in their white suits frantically waving arms and blowing whistles with no discernable purpose biggrin
If you're into Gothic monstrosities, check out the cathedral on the old Formula One circuit.

I think Barcelona is the most amazing place in the world. Id love to retire there.
It has everything, The ramblas, the gothic cathedral. The architecture modern and new,
enjoy
All things Gaudi... nothing else to see!
Instead of Gaudi tour I did Picasso tour which was amazing to see all his early work which was an eye opener. The fish market on Las Ramblas is worth going to just to see how people take home in their carrier bags 'live' fish. Facinating. I found the whole culture, art and music really fun and would love to go back again and to the surrounding area. I am jealous but hope you have a wonderful timex
How about hiring a car, travelling a little way North to Figueras and going to the Dali Museum !!! WOW. It's fantastic.
Stu of the "I may not know much about art, but I know what I like" variety...lol....

I'll second that... absolutely stunning and an opportunity that just can't be missed!
thank you all so far, already looking into car hire !
This is my first time so hallo. I am working in Barcelona working at the moment and come here alot.
For culture go to the museam of Contemory Art just off the to of the Ramblas. a good bar is the London Bar very Spanish not English It is in a side street just off the Ramblas on the right hand side as you look down it. Cannot tell you the name of the street but it is about half way down.
For clubing go to the Harbour area around the Hotel Arts lots of bars and clubs
Have Fun
Barcelona has something for all tastes, For Nightlife try port Olympic, a taxi ride out, but a harbour area one part full of Fish restaurant after fish restaurant, the other half is bar upon bar all open to the outside where you can dance the night away until dawn.
A must is the Sacra Familia Cathedral. A fairytale cathedral designed by Gaudi that they have been building for over 100 yyears and will not be finished for many years...Manyana!!
You can get one of two tour busses which will take you all around the sites.
I am also told that across from the Barcelona stadium are scantily clad ladies of the night of the most attractive that you will find anywhere in Europe!
Go enjoy...enjoy...enjoy..
Stayed in most fantastic hotel in Port Olympia full of original art work so if you go there worth popping in for a drink called Hotel Olympia I seem to remember Short taxi out of Barcelona
Went seven times last year. Sounds crazy but the tourist bus is a good starting point. Covers two routes round the city and you can hop off and on as many times as you like, covers all the major sites. Think it's 15 euro for one day and 18 euro for two days. As an alternative the metro and bus services are excellent and for euro can go any distance, single journey or (4.6 euro for a day ticket with unlimited bus or metro journeys). Taxis are also dirt cheap.
