Just a little warning, just in case some of you aren't aware, but did you know that if you get someone to take photographs for you then the copyright actually belongs to the photographer.
You might actually be in breach if you use the pics yourself without permission, an example might be if a married couple posted a wedding pic., whereas the photographer can use the photo's as he/she wishes without any prior consent from the subject.
There are some little variations to this, a simple little written agreement can sort it all, and you're certainly unlikely to get sued for posting the pics on your profile. Just be aware.
If you know a pro photographer or cameraman then they could probably raise the document you should have to safeguard yourselves.

Thanks for that ;)
On the flip side to that and although it is given that the photographer normally owns the copyright (unless employed by a company to take the pictures, in which case they (company) own the copyright) proving copyright can be bloody expensive and not a guaranteed success.
If you're a keen photographer and I am and you want to protect your image copyright then it's best to register with bodies such as the copyright service (there are other companies offering a similar service) where for a fee (it's about £70 for a decade) you can upload your images (bulk is best) and help preserve their integrity should a claim come about re the copyright. They also supply you with a document should you want to transfer ownership to another and one which stands up in court at that.
So, if my pic turns up on X-Hamster I'm 'avin em

however the photographer also needs to get the subject to sign a model release form, as he is then also in breach if he/she then goes on to use the photographs

That's more a thing in the United States.
I have people sign a model release form when I take pictures, but that is purely to bring it to their attention that the pictures are mine and not theirs.
It is a nicety more than anything else, because the reality is if they refuse to sign the form it makes no difference to me, I still take the pictures and I can do what I like with them (I don't - but I could do if I wanted). That said, I have never had anyone refuse yet, and my photography is more of a commercial nature than anything else which is arguably more important than some dodgy bedroom snaps taken with a point and shoot.
